Guest PaulF Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003 Hi - Anyone succesfully set up their SPV to synchronise to 2 different PC's on different OS's ? I am using W98SE and have it synchronised OK. I have just installed W2K as a second OS (so I can install the update), but when I set up the sync, it gives the following error: The following information type on your mobile device has items that have not been synchronized with this computer before: Information Type: All Desktpo Services It then gives three options: Combine the items on my device with the items on this computer Replace the items on my device with the items on this computer Do not synchronize this information at this time I have tried using the 'combine' option in the past, and ended up with all my contacts and appointments duplicated (so I don't want to risk trying that again) I can use the 'replace' option to clear this error (apart from the fact it loses all my default number and custom ring tone settings, which is annoying), but then when I reboot back into W98, I then get the same error from there. I did another 'replace' on that one, thinking once I had done it on both OS's it might be OK, but when I went back to W2K, the error came back again ! I am not syncing the InBox (as I believe you can't sync an InBox to 2 different PC's), but I thought I should be able to sync the others (Calendar, Contacts and Taks) to 2 PC's OK ?? Is it the different OS's that has caused the problem ?? Any ideas, greatly appreciated. Many thanks, PaulF
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 I regularly connect the phone to two different PCs. One is W2K the other XPpro. However, I only sync the Personal Information with one of those, because past experience dating back to my first Palm (my, how time flies) shows that double sync'ing works well... theoreticaly. On the home PC, I only use Activesync for pass-thru and explore. Obviously, and no help to you alas, I've never had an issue with that set-up.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 However, I do have one idea you could try... at your own risk :) 1. Replace the content of the phone with those of one of the PCs. 2. Delete all the information from Outlook on the other PC. 3. Sync the phone with that second, empty PC. If the choice pops up, chose merge over replace. This used to work on Palms.
Guest PaulF Posted March 6, 2003 Report Posted March 6, 2003 Thanks for the tips Does anyone know if I can do the update from my W2k PC on a 'guest' login (i.e. ignoring the sync problem) ??
