Guest Eran Posted March 8, 2003 Report Posted March 8, 2003 check this out, part of the news item from SmartGamer: "Just wanted to let you two guys and everybody else know that I'm still alive and that Speedway JAM! is coming along quite well. Everything seems to take forever, so I thought I should spend a minute and tell you what's been going on lately. "Due to the fact that Speedway JAM! will be released on a range of different devices, I've been forced to spend quite a bit of time to make sure that both the graphics holds up even on low powered 100 MHz Smartphones. The physics engine have been totally rewritten three times over the last few months, and it is now rock solid and performs very nicely. Making sure that the physics is stable with no support for floating point math is really though when you try to simulate cars that drive along a rugged polygon surface at 250 kmph with no faking. Each car has a simulation of the complete drive train, with realistic torque curves, gear ratios, differential mass/inertia, wheel mass/inertia, drive torque, traction torque, friction, slip, shocks, etc. So basically, anything you can do with a real car, you can do with these cars. At the same time, there is a very fine line between "simulation" and "fun". Whenever I have to compromise, I go for fun . This is indeed looks very cool, there is also a movie demonstrating the cars in action to download from here Looks very promising! Regards Eran
Guest davidhorn Posted March 8, 2003 Report Posted March 8, 2003 Hi, We now have another movie showing Speedway JAM! on the SmartPhone, with a variety of different cars. Visit SmartGamer.org to get it. There's also a selection of several more screenshots on the site. Also, Eran, please could you not post direct links to the video? I'd rather people came to the site and got the links from there, because they do change :) Thanks,
Guest Myke Posted March 8, 2003 Report Posted March 8, 2003 wow, i watched the video, it looks great! the physics are amazing!
Guest davidhorn Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 Hi, If you're visiting the site and can't find the news item, it's because it's been moved to the news archives with other older posts. Here's a direct link to the news item: http://www.smartgamer.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61 Also, if you want me to forward any of your questions about the game to the developer, post them in the comments thread (guest posting is always enabled on my forums, so no need to register to comment on a news item.)
Guest yatpeak Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 A thought just struck me, will Speedway Jam be digitally signed? Thanks, Wyatt
Guest ChezDoodles Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 :) Don't worry - Speedway JAM! will have the digital signatures necessary ;) >Sven Myhre
Guest yatpeak Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Phew, thanks a lot, cant wait! :) Wyatt
Guest fraser Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Can you actually race cars in this game, or is it all about getting the best way to drop them on the track? :) C'mon folks, let's see some videos of the game in action! Wet our appetities...
Guest Maverick Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Whatever happened?? Is it still in development? It definetly didnt look like vaporware
Guest Gorskar Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 I'm told that unfortunately this title was not able to be made to run smooth on a 132mHz phone. Hopefully it will be released when faster smartphones are more abundant.
Guest ChezDoodles Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 ...and by "smooth" we're talking MORE than 20 frames per sec. The Mio8380 pass with flying colors (20-25 fps). The Motorola MPx200 appears to be quite a bit faster than the SPV (even though it is powered by the same CPU, same speed) so it looks like it will be able to handle at least one of the racing games that is under creation using this game engine (pocketmirage).
Guest pisquee Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 David Horn? "I've been forced to spend quite a bit of time to make sure that both the graphics holds up even on low powered 100 MHz Smartphones. The physics engine have been totally rewritten three times over the last few months, and it is now rock solid and performs very nicely." Gorskar... "I'm told that unfortunately this title was not able to be made to run smooth on a 132mHz phone. Hopefully it will be released when faster smartphones are more abundant." Confused, which statement is true?
Guest Gorskar Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Well you'll notice my statement is a lot later on. That should give you a hint ;) See the statement above by ChezDoodles (the developer.) The Mitac and the new motorola phone are both faster beasts that could handle this game, but neither is available that widely yet, so an early release might be a bit pointless. I'm no marketing whizz but I imagine a lot of a game's sales will occur soon after its launch when its on all the news sites, so you want there to be a lot of devices out there to take advantage of it.
Guest davidhorn Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Yeah, if I remember correctly the games graphics have improved considerably since the video and the developer now only wants it on phones that can handle the heavy loads.
Guest agent.m Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 [-X well its got competition with the new 3d bike game and car. bike one ok! havent tried car one. im not into people who advertise something then dont come up with the goods!!
Guest midnight Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 so, just like the bike game then, maybe they should have waited for better processors aswell :)
