Dont get too happy. ...from what i've heard the SPV supports only 256MB cars (although I've heard of someone using a 512MB but it has intermittent problems)

I t6hought the SPV would only recognise upto 512 Mb and it struggles with that.

Imagine the price of a 1Gb card  not to mention writting and reading time

On the promotional launch video they stated the phone would run on 512MB with

1GB being released next year (this year now).

Think it was Neil who said ALL size cards would work on the SPV... Plz don't quote me on that...

My understanding was that the SPV would support all sizes of SD cards - I don't know much about how it works, but I would hope that this storage format has been designed without any capacity limits (unlike IDE) and so anyone implementing it and being compliant with it should be able to support all types and sizes of SD flash memory.

Just my thoughts,

I have seen this quote too, he implied that ANY size card will work, whatever size they bring out!

They stated a great many things before launch....and we have since found out that they...er...um...no nice way to put it...LIED!!!

Why would there be any problem, just because the capacity is bigger? It doesn't have to read all of it at once or anything, so where does the problem come from?

Thanks,

Just thought I'd throw my 2peneth into the ring.

SD cards in UK = V. Expensive.

Got a 256MB card off E-Bay from the US. Total cost inc. post & packaging = £60. 8)

I think this is top notch prices. All I've got to do now is find some DivX movies to watch.

I imagine that by the time 1GB cards are out they be about £150 - £200 from the US and about £500 in the UK - more rip-off Britain!!

Well, just my thoughts. For those that are interested PM me and I'll see if I can remember the name of the seller from E-Bay.

Andy.

I'll sell you a 256 for the same price if you guys are interested. I'm the U.S. so I can buy from a online store that doesn't ship to the U.K, and just get it shipped to me, and then I'll ship it to you myself. PM me if anyone is seriously interested. Go to buy.com and pick which one you want.

Be very careful with that kinda of deal on a public forum, as customs & excise will look very closely at VAT. If you pay it, then they'll be happy (who wouldn't?).

Sorry |I might be missing the point here but aren't 1gb SD/SM already availble?

1gb Micro drives are and from what one of my suppliers was saying kingston and Microwave were shipping these already in asia and the US.

Might be wrong though.... :?:

They have SD format Microdrives out now? I thought they were only in CF format?

Guest yatpeak

I though the microdrives were just a brand that made 1gb CFs. But then, I never really looked into CFs, too big for my liking.

Microdrive is a technology IBM sold off recently. They are CompactFlash format hard drives with a spinning disk inside. They are NOT 1GB flashcards composed of silicon chips of solidstate memory.

Not sure I'll ask them again

I very much doubt that you could fit a "proper" microdrive into something as small and thin as a SD card! After all, microdrives are simply miniaturised hard disks that fit into a type II compact flash housing approx. 43x36x5 mm according to specs that can be found here. To get motors and the likes into the space of an SD card really would be going some! Not saying it can't be done in the future, but I'd be surprised if it could be done at this moment in time.
