Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 got some weird files appeared on my sd card and it wont let me delete them. any idea what they are and how to get rid? they are named with all a's and o's with weird accents on them. i cant even type them. [áòì [@ìõ,@ìõ.0@ì l0éþl first two are files third is a folder. i have 15 of them and they are each around 3.5 gb
Guest Carnivor Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 looks like you need to reformat the card, use task manager to do this, 2ndly you sure about the 3.5 gb? gb???
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 thats what it says next to each one. between 3.53 and 3.64
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 Do you have a card reader? Are those files visible and unremoveable in the reader, too?
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 yep, visible and unremoveable in all-explorer and smartexplorer
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 :) Sorry that wasn't very clear, was it? I meant a card reader on the PC, to look at those files w/o the phone.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 just shows a blank window. i'll try formatting i think
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 damn, "error while trying to format card" back to square one
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 I think you are faced with a dead card with bad "sectors". Try a scandisk?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 In XP, you right-click on the reader, then select properties, the tools tab, and bob's your uncle.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 sorry i misunderstood you, i dont have a card reader. helpppppppppppppppppp
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 Is the card knackered now that you've tried to format it?
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 nope it still works fine. came up with the error message as soon as i clicked format so i guess it didnt even start
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 do these strange files prevent you from using the card? Or are they just an annoyance?
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 they arent preventing me doing anything but its a 64mb card and they are taking up about 40mb of it.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 Ouch! You need to find a Card Reader you can borrow. I can't think of anything else to do with just the phone. I'm sorry... :)
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 ok but thanks anyway.appreciate the help.
Guest martin Posted March 9, 2003 Report Posted March 9, 2003 Terminater2:uk: Maybe these files are from the future and contain a map to sarah (whats er name). I know a few sarah's around my area but a can't guarantee you that you won't take something back to the future.
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 c'mon mods one of you experts must know the answer?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Try attempting a backup to it (through the bootloader). Assuming the card integrity is still ok it will wipe the filesystem/data, let it complete or whatever then boot your phone normally and put the card it, SmartPhone will then ask to format it. See if that works...
Guest yatpeak Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 I have also found these files on my sd card, also 3-4gb, but since they take up no space (despite what they seem), it doesn't really affect me, so I just leave them. Thye were deleted last time I formatted the card, but I believe that I could read them through a card reader. Wyatt
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 well i just did a search and read loads of topics but the general thing i'm getting is that you cant backup to card after update. am i wrong? only option i get is erase ipsm
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Try downloading USBTerm from the link on my sig then take a look through http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...ghlight=usbterm for tips on how to use it.
