What do you need to compress?

What do you need to compress?

nothing in particular yet.should there be a specific file compressing application for a specific application?

You don't need to compress anything on the Smartphone platform to be honest, and no, there's no ZIP opener for the platform as of yet.

actually, i disagree there, there are plenty of things that could be zipped, and an unzipper is VERY usefull.

example..... Have all gameboy or nes or whatever roms in one zip and just unzip the game you wanna play (much space saved)

Files on the net should be saved as zip not cab (so as to avoid confusion if someone was to download using a pc) then, if you wish to download a zip with my reg hacks for example, you can do it via the phone, unzip and install. (of course i could actually put both filetypes on my website, but i'm too lazy heheh)

Of course there are many more arguments for the zip formats so, zip for the smartphone is as important as for the pc.

That's the only use I would find useful of for an unzipper (why can't Mono get cabs ;p).

many uses, i mean, people where amazed that using a small program could remove 50k on bootup hehehe, zipping files saves much more than that

what about email attachments? usefull for that aswell, really, theres a lot of benefits

Because sloppy webserver admins don't amend there apache config's to make .cab's a downloadable filetype. If i didnt zip mine up IE/Mozilla just opens the cabs as plain text :/
