Guest Fat Freddys Cat Posted April 13, 2003 Report Posted April 13, 2003 Hi all I've had my SPV for 10 days and have got to grips with most of it, but still have a few questions. I did go through and search for them here, which cut them down by about half, but please don't shout at me if I missed some and these have been covered a hundred times already! 1. Since I unlocked it, whenever I go to Security>Settings, after a couple of seconds, the signal vanishes, it jumps back to the home screen, says "searching" for a mo, before getting the signal back. WTF? The only way to change the security settings now is to switch radio off, but I do think this is a bit strange. 2. This thing don't half get through the battery eh! Does anyone know if one of those wind-up chargers will work for the SPV? I always fancied one for my Nokia but didn't really need it since I only needed to charge it once or twice a week, but reckon it would be flippin handy now. 3. I haven't really explored the backup option since it only seems to want to send my things off somewhere remote - can I back everything up to my PC (as in, not just synching with Outlook)? 4. By the way, Wildfire - wtf? Just appeared one day, got stroppy with me for not ringing her sooner, talked to my friends and refused to pass on their messages until she'd got to know me better, the cow. Is she worth hanging on to? 5. Oh yeah, this phone is everything I wanted - all those years of telling my friends I didn't want a phone until I could get one with loads of music and the whole internet inside it and which would make me tea, who's laughing now, eh? 6. Where was I? Oh yes - is there a way to get it to ring once and then vibrate - that was my favourite setting on my old phone, very very useful. 7. The manual mentions that you can adjust the backlight brightness. Is it lying? 8. Just out of interest, how easy would it be for someone to hack my password, say if I lost it? I don't really like the thought that some git could see all my files, emails, contacts and general personal stuff. 9. Do the "most recently used" icons at the top reset to default whenever you switch on? I'm sure they didn't used to before I unlocked, but now they do. I could of course be imagining that, and it's not very important anyway! 10. Is it me, or does the alarm not work when the phone is off? I was impressed (yes, I am easily impressed) that I could switch my Nokia off and it would still wake me up in the mornings, but the SPV doesn't seem so keen. Thanks in advance folks!
Guest madu Posted April 13, 2003 Report Posted April 13, 2003 1. strange.... 2. don't understand what you mean.. mine lasts a day. you can have either a USB charger if u have a laptop or get a battery charger.have a search 3. not that I know of. but backup is n independent database run by Action Engine. Don't think it is that 'unsecure' 4. never used wildfire, dunno. 5. yep, it makes me coffe in the morning.. 6. You can have Vibrate then Ring... So i think it is possible. Ask 'midnight' (use Personal Message thing (PM) and type in 'midnight' in "To:" field, he would know. But you will need to do some 'registry editing'. more info on his website) 7. No you cannot do that. Most of them have got good conttrast anyway. What page is that in manual btw? 8. Not easy to hack the password, but it is possible to either do that or get the database file from a ROM backup, not easy though. 9. Yes they do reset, but can be changed in registry... Hence customisable. See midnight's homepage for info (see Registry Tweaks in Articles section.) 10. That is true. Only works when phone is ON. Bit of a bugger. By the way, you want to set your 'Alarm Type' in profile properties to 'Increasing' else it won't loop. phhew. THE END.
Guest Fat Freddys Cat Posted April 13, 2003 Report Posted April 13, 2003 Thanks madukrainian! 2. don't understand what you mean.. mine lasts a day. you can have either a USB charger if u have a laptop or get a battery charger.have a searchI know, but if I spend the day out and about, listening to tunes and doing stuff, I worry that by the end of the day (say, a lo-o-ong one!) I'd be out of juice at a potentially critical time in the middle of the night. 7. No you cannot do that. Most of them have got good conttrast anyway. What page is that in manual btw? Page 8.4 of "guide", under "conserving battery power". Not really important, just wondering. Cheers.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 13, 2003 Report Posted April 13, 2003 There are a few omissions and blatant lies in the manual. No voice dialing, hold "recieve call", while in a call to change to speakerphone etc... Which password were you talking about btw? SIM or device pin? Any other questions, fire away, theres plenty of tips and hints for speeding up and customising your phone
