i dont know what i did wrong but after attempting to decert my phone my phone suddenly went faulty its an orange spv (dunno if any other spv phones have been released yet) basically first of all i attempted to decert my phone thru the orange developer web site this went well i got the mesage saying my phone was unlocked but when i tried an unsigned application eg gnuboy and spv task manager i got a message saying this application is not digitally sighned bla bla so i then tried to de cert it the other way so i started by copying and altering the file as requested then i turned off my phone and the bak on while pressing the voice recorder key so i got the white screen i then pressed and held the action button to get the diagisnostics screen this came up and i then picked selection no 8 to delete the ipsm and it then came up with the confirmation screen (so far so good) i thern reset it so i could quickly paste the file thru active sync quickly but the orange scrren with the sunset stayed on for ages but eventually the blue screen came up but my phone wouldnt sync with microi activesync , so i then tried the phone out my custom screen was gone my contacts and sms were gone and i think every setting was gone including all connection settings and some applications like orange backup and orange update came up saying this application is not digitally sighned.

Oh and i was also uable to phone out or send any messages at all.

so i ended up having a hour long call to orange and finally after getting told to do stupid things by the helpstaff one of them did a diagnostic and it my phone showed up as faulty so thankfully i have insurance with orange im getting a replacement tomorow evening which is pretty good service i think

so does anyone know what went wrong so i dont make the mistake again?

Jesus, i'm out of breath just trying to read that.

Basically it sounds like you've not edited the provxml correctly. All you have to do is another hard reset, with the correctly edited file (this is changing 1 to 4 numbers, depending on your update version) and copy it over as soon as AS kicks in.

Which update are you running?

NB: A hard reset is exactly that, it resets you phone back to factory defaults, so all your messages/homescreens/ringtones/apps etc on the phone will be removed...

Also when decerting try using Will's decert app

found here it's very easy to use and worked first time when I had to

use it on my replacement phone.

and the chances are, it wasnt a faulty phone at all

oh, err, is this a uk phone we are talking about?

and yeh, use the decert tool next time, cos manually is a bit hit and miss if you dont know what you are doing.

One more point - if you're having trouble with the "official" decert route, you might want to check you have the latest software update as I *think* it is *required* (version 1.3.5 and up IIRC) for the decert to work.
