Guest sameerabedi Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 I've downloaded WhoCall 2.7b and tried to copy it in *.zip format to my phone. I then changed the name to a *.cab format and when I tried to install it the phone claims that installation failed cause the program is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate. I've unlocked my phone via the Orange website and got the right screen telling me my phone was unlocked, so y is this happening??? Can someone help please? Many Thanks
Guest James Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 you have to unzip the file onto your desktop, there is a cab file within mate! and there is a new version called smartface, have a look in software!
Guest sameerabedi Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 I've already tried that. I downloaded the smartface one, unzipped it and it became an *.exe program, so I transferred that to IPSMWindowsStart Menu and now when I click on it nothing happens. Any other solutions? How did u install it? Is there something else I need to do to uncertify my phone?
Guest James Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 thats what is is supossed to do... the program will now be running in the background.. if you use task manager you can see it running.
Guest James Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 remember to create a shortcut in the IPSMWindowsStartup directory! 1. open the IPSMWindowsStart Menu dir in active sync. 2. right click on smatrface.exe and select 'create shortcut'. 3. cut and paste the shortcut into the IPSMWindowsStartup dir.
Guest sameerabedi Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 do u mean startmenu or startup?? Basically after unzipping smartfacemgr.zip i got left with smartfacemgr.exe and when I clicked on it it wouldn't load, saying that it was an invalid application - so I'm not sure what u meant about the Task Manager? (Unless I'm being incredibly dumb and slow, in which case I apologise, I'm new to this all!!) I then tried transferring smartfacemgr.exe to IPSMWindowsStart Menu and when I try to load it up on the phone nothing happens. However, if the program is running in the background, how do I then use it to put pics for the caller ID?? I also tried renaming smartfacemgr.zip to smartfacemgr.cab and put it in a folder: IPSMStart MenuTo Install, and when I tried to install it, the phone wouldn't let me claiming it did not have a signed certificate, even though I've used the Orange website to unlock my phone! Is there anything else I need to do to de-certify my phone? I really don't know what is going on. Would u mind giving me step by step guide as to how to install smartfacemgr, where to put the program, how to run it and what else I need to do to de-certify me phone (if at all anything). I hope this isn't too much trouble, obviously don't worry if u can't! Many Thanks Sameer
Guest James Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 do a search for smartface in the software folder on this site mate it should explain it all also search for whocall. if i have more time tomorrow i can go through it a little more clearly with you step by step!
Guest ceb Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 oookay  prologue firstly before getting into further installation step, please remember that smarFace (ex-whocall) is in its beta phase. Which means that the program is not complete, nor is guaranted to work on your phone. Even if some users (well lots of ;)) reported that it did work, it is still not the final version... and since this is not the final version, it doesn't include all the "configuration" stuff you are looking for (configure pics for caller id) how to install? basically to make this work, you have to copy the smartFaceMgr.exe on you phone. launch the exe on the phone (using smartExplorer or whatever), nothing happens 'coz smartFace works in the background, it stay idle until a phone call arrives on you storage card, create a directory called pict then in this directory (/Storage Card/pict) copy the pics you want to associate to your phone numbers the pictures must be correctly nammed. example: if the phone number is +4412345678 then you must name the picture +4412345678.jpg (or gif, or png with smartFace) in fact just namming it 12345678.jpg is ok now, if everything is well installed then when +4412345678 calls you, its pictures should appear... how to remove smartFace? turn off, turn on your phone, smartFace is unloaded if you're happy with it and want it to autolaunch everytime you turn on your phone then put smartFaceMgr.exe in /ISPM/Windows/StartUp (to remove it later, you will have to use a task manager to halt the processus before being able to delete the file) note from the author as i already said, this is just a beta the full version will come out with a desktop installer, a configuration tool, and a link to remove it, and will be signed :(... just have to wait a little hope this will help
Guest James Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 got there before me... did not fancy writing all that on my spv.....
Guest ceb Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 did not fancy writing all that on my spv..... oh? why not?
Guest sameerabedi Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 LEGEND!!!! Thank you very much! It works!! This program is wicked! Just one more question - hope ur not getting tired of this!! - how do I access the task manager on my SPV? Also, can I take pics with the SPV camera and move them to the 'pict' folder on the Storage Card?? (Ok I know that's 2 questions! sorry!) Thanks again!
Guest James Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 look on www.monolithix.org for the SP task manager. if you have the UK update for the phone (you should do) use camera app and use the menu to select the storage card to store your pics on, then use a file explorer (smart explorer) to rename them. look on www.monolithix.org for a link to a file exploprer.
