Hello

I have just moved over to Linux and oh boy wot joy, no more spending on over priced software.

Altough, one aspect of M$ I did like was Outlook and the Sync with my SPV, does any know if this can be done on a Linux system?

And before the M$philes start taking the rip out of me, yeah I know it is a completly different operating system and it probably isnt compatible, but If u dont ask u wont get!!

I am willing to forgo the Sync coz my wallet will be a lot heavier from now

Heh, brave lad  What distro did you switch to?

I don't think it can be done as activesync isn't available for Linux?

Look around at how PocketPC users do it. Oh, and WINE - windows emulation - may help.

I'd be happy to just get a guest account working. Gives me another point in the house to get net access for free on the phone. If you get anywhere with this, please post back your results!!

I opted for Mandrake 9.1 as this is the only distro which had some sort of support for the Alcatel Speedtouch USB. The install was perfect, a little trouble sorting out the internet and network connections but figured that out.

Will check out Sourceforge and report back.

I've switched to Linux too, theplayer, though I picked Redhat 8.0 and chickened out and stayed dual boot with Windows XP. Having finally got my wireless network running my two remaining problems have been no driver for my printer (Canon MPC600F) and no sync with the SPV.

As well as synce I also found Dids' pocket pc kde importer but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Maybe you could post re. progress here as it would be useful to know how you get on.

I use Debian Sid, switched about two weeks ago, and apart from the webcam and the SPV phone have so far got all the hardware I have working. :)

SynCE will probably work if you patch the USB driver to include support for SPV (there is a guide how to do that at the sourceforge site). The vendor and product IDs come up as you start the computer up with the phone plugged in, ignore the ones they propose on the site. Other than that simply following the instructions should get you there.

I have not yet tried that, as every time I re-compile my kernel something random breaks. Maybe I just ought to make the driver like it says in the site.. But don't let my experience deter you from trying it as not all of my source code is in the main source tree, causing compile errors at random. Therefore if anyone running a Linux with 2.4.18 kernel or later wants to try it and post their experiences here it would be appreciated! Good luck!

Well, I patched the kernel driver for the ipaq and added the spv 8)

Still doesn't seem to work though, synce wants to setup an ppp connection to the spv, and i believe that is not the right way to make a connection to a smartphone

Anybody got his spv working with tux yet?

(tip: make sure you compile at least this options in your kernel: usb, usb ipaq, ppp)

I wont have time for about another 2 weeks as I have exams and revision and such.. After that I'll look into it more carefully. Today after 6 days of uptime I decided to see what the boot sequence looks like since I havent seen one for ages, so I rebooted my computer, and it told me that

VendorID is 0xbb4 and

ProductID is 0xce

If that helps anyone.
