Guest EGAN Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Everything was going along smoothly with my SPV until today. I asked Orange to send me an update so I can use my SPV abroad and crash bang wallop ... no GPRS anymore !!! I get the G showing on the menu screen but when it is dailing the G flickers on the coverage bar and then the screen says "Connection Error" "unable to make call" After speaking to Orange on 2 separate occassions this afternoon for nearly an hour and resetting the GPRS settings it still doesnt work. They checked the GPRS coverage for my area and said there isnt a problem there. Now it has been left with the technical department ... oh Great !!! probably will never get back to me !! Can anyone help me out on this. ps. Would it have anything to do with the Orange Update I downloaded which involved downloading part of the French Update becasue I had Windows ME ??? I am just guessing now ???
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Are you certain that you still have the GPRS option enabled on your account? Because the phone will show network presence even if you no longer have access. Have tried sending an MMS? It should connect effortlessly to the GPRS network even if you no lnger have GPRS on your account.
Guest EGAN Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 YEah, still hav GPRS acivated ... the G is showing and it even starts dailing up, but then just doesnt connect. Any further clues ?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 The G does NOT indicate that your account has GPRS active. It only shows the network is present. I have a SIM here that is NOT activated for GPRS and it shows the G, and when you try to connect to the net with GPRS, you get that error message you described. I insist, try sending an MMS by GPRS. This works even if GPRS is not activated for you SIM/account, if the GPRS MMS settings are right.
Guest Sweevo_uk Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Egan I had exactly the same problem and it was caused by exactly the same thing. I called 156 and they went through exactly the same things as you. They then esculated the problem to second line support. About 5 days later I recieved a text message from Orange whilst I was abroad telling me that everything should be working when I got home, and it was! So stick with it and keep calling 156, they can and will fix it - eventually!
Guest EGAN Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 ..... 5 days ....... I am on the 4th day today. ... so much for getting back to me within 24-48 hours !! Anyone else have this problem ?
Guest Tyrant_worm Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 I had this problem after taking the update but I switched off overnight and it worked in the morning. I was working on the basis that something had gone wrong with my GPRS session(SIM was the same in another GPRS handset), if you switch off, your GPRS session should 'clear down' though may take a little while to happen so I just left it overnight.
