Guest mobillars Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Finally found someone with the old software ver 1.3.3.22 which is needed for this to work. With the new update came some long awaited updates, but one which we really didn't need they removed the way for us to de certifying the software. but if you have a sd/mmc card bigger than 32 megs (i Think worked with my 124mb) then you can get an de-cert phone with the neewest update. first get the old software mail me if you don't know how to get it (it's 11megs and has a full rom update(I will also try and post this software on other sites since my bandwith is kinda limited) then install it and de-cert the old way by modifying bot mxip_oem_10.provxml and mxipcol_oem_10.provxml with these security settings then follow the rest of the guide written at http://www.coolsmartphone.com/app-cert.htm#M when done and the phone is de-cert check by running some uncertified progz. then backup the entire phone heres how to do that. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2628 then remember to remove your sd/mmc card. update to the new software. and then restore the IPSM folder with the backup. All done DK software with T9 dictionary and ability to run all kinds of software
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Well, we almost had to wait before the solution was available, this time :) Great job all!
Guest TnT Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Hi! Instead of all this troublesome tinkering, wouldn't it be possible to patch the Orange Updater Package to be de-certified when it updates the phone? Kind regards, TnT PS: Yup, I know I'm optimistic, but that's me... :)
Guest Gorskar Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 As far as I'm aware the new DK update modifies the bootloader, so that IPSM restoring isnt allowed (will only allow you to make or restore full backups I think). To get round this you need the USBterm program mentioned in this thread Ive not actually checked this out for myself, but trust what I read here. Oh, forgot to mention: when you restore the IPSM backup you will be missing the shortcuts for the two new apps (sound and pic manager) To remedy this put these shortcuts in your IPSMwindowsstart menu folder: WindowsEzSound.exe for picture manager WindowsEzPic.exe for sound manager (this info courtesy of this thread on backups, from articles section of forum)
Guest Gorskar Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Tnt - It might be possible to modify the update program, (by someone alot cleverer in these matters than me) but this would be questionable from a legal standpoint, as presumably the update program is copyright material, and therefore reverse engineering it and distributing might cause legal problems. Sorry about that, but whoever said life was easy eh? If you need any more help de-certing your phone you are in the right place. :)
Guest Lojt Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Please be aware! By doing this your phone will still have the bugs from the first update! Read this link!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 For anyone that does want to give this method a try, i have uploaded the DK1 update to my software site, www.monolithix.org/SPV_software Thanks to mobillars for providing me with a copy of the app.
Guest whatever Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 i still cant't get it running.... maybe it's me... :?: i do the old update file ver(4.0.100.1190), i am then able to decert, but still i have only one choice in the menu....erase IPSM.. so.... how do i back the f...... thing up do i need to install an old bootloader????? if so, where to put the file on the card!! in the root?
Guest Lojt Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Click my link and follow those instructions.
Guest whatever Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 :?: ehh not sure what link u mean... if the one above on your post, i can't se how it helps me.... i install update (old), decert it, then back up via usbterm ( as i am not able / can't do it by phone)... use boot -> card, ce -> card, gsm -> card, ipsm -> card... ohh i first format the card by qfs 10!! then install new update, do as told and boot the phone with the card in, and when it asks to install bootloader, i do so, but then the phone hangs at orange startscreen when i try to restart.... ?? i have tried to skip this boot stuff load, and just load ipsm via usbterm... this just takes obout a couble of sec's ( should it be that fast??? ) still the @£$%&*# sh.. doesn't work.. am i just a dum person, or ..... ohh thx for the reps
Guest liland Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Arrrrrrhg.... @£$%&*# Why wont it work? Im trying to follow this instruktions: Hold the Record button down while powering up the SPV. Press and hold the Action (joystick middle button) button as instructed. Well I do press the action key, but I only get the 3 x Canary MV screen. So I never get the option to press the 8 key to erase IPSM data. I have instaled the old DK update from mobillars so it should work. What am I doing wrong? HELP ME PLEASE!!!
Guest Gorskar Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Try it with a card in the phone, and also try powering on with the action button pressed together with the power and record buttons. When phone turns on let go of power + record buttons, then very quickly let go of action and press again.
Guest mobillars Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Seems to me so many people have trouble getting this to work! I will in the weekend write a thourough danish guide and post it on www.4smartphone.dk and later translate it to english. And yes the profile bug still exist, but i've found a workaround for it...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 you can post it here in Danish as well if you want :) thanks for all your help.
Guest TnT Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Tnt - It might be possible to modify the update program, (by someone alot cleverer in these matters than me) but this would be questionable from a legal standpoint, as presumably the update program is copyright material, and therefore reverse engineering it and distributing might cause legal problems. Well, one would ofcourse only distribute the patch. That shouldn't be illegal right? Maybe it's illegal to apply the patch to the Orange Updater afterwards, but hey. That's up to the individual user right? :) Anyway, I think it's SO stupid of Orange to not allow the users to run non-certified programs. They should just have made a security menu where you could enable/disable certified code only. Then it would be up to the user if he wanted to "risk" running all the great software being made for the phone... And since it IS a Microsoft OS it's never gonna be totallly secure/safe anyway... ;) Kind Regards, TnT
Guest mobillars Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Soeey guys!!! my phone is dead, so I got it in for repairs and without it i can't really remember exactly how the procedure went, so you have to hold on for some time yet before i'll post the guide. Anyway I'm working on a way to de-cert the installer program instead as this would be so much better than all this work-around. but reverse enginering is hard work and if anyone have any ideas on how to get access to the files in the installer then it would be much appreciated. But i believe the installer is somehow crc checked, need a work around for this too. Damn thos stupid F#^?`"#¤/&¤ at Orange... Anyway, any help would be appreciated
