Guest FrankyG Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Hi, I'm keen to capture some tv shows to view on my SPV, was wondering about settings for audio/video capture. I would be capturing using my TV card, which I'm pretty sure cant use the Divx codec to capture. So I plan to capture using another codec, then use Virtual Dub to convert to Divx format for viewing on the phone. Should I try to set the initial capture as high quality as disk space allows, or better to go for high compression/small file size intitially? I'm pretty sure it would be better to minimize intitial compression, then let Virtual Dub do it's stuff. If anyone can advise me on what settings for video or audio (bit rate, sample rate etc.) on the initial capture would be sensible that would be appreciated. I've already had a look at the threads for creating the Divx encoded files using Virtual Dub, so no worries there. Thanks for any input, FrankyG
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Which TV capture card/software do you use? My experience with capturing at low compression has been bad, can't seem to get these huge files to remain uncorrupted. Recording more than 20 minutes becomes dicey. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I've got two drives RAID'd for speed, but I'm not sure. Getting a big one for storage soon, standalone, and will try on that next time. I capture/encode straight to DivX, altho that is CPU intensive, it runs fine on the P4. I haven't tried it with suitable settings for the SPV, tho. edit : I use an Archos MMJ to view video on the go, so I've played little with this on the phone. Can't use my collection as the screen rez and more importantly supported fps have nothing in common, and too lazy to convert them all.
Guest FrankyG Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I use the Hauppage WinTV PCI card, and it does the capture in software. I capture/encode straight to DivX, altho that is CPU intensive, it runs fine on the P4. I haven't tried it with suitable settings for the SPV, tho. You mean from your TV card? What do you use to do the capture? I'm thinking I might be able to use different software but use the Divx codec to encode directly. Using PIII 1GHz so should be ok for horsepower. Probably a bit of experimenting is in the offing (read:another excuse for spending hours at the PC...you KNOW what I mean  ) Cheers, FrankyG
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 You should be able to set Codecs (edit : including DivX) to use for TV capture with that card's original bundled software... What Codecs does it offer you now?
