Corrupt Contacts on SIM

Somehow in the last week or so all the contacts stored on the SIM card have become corrupt. All the names have either been wiped or replaced with random non-alphabet characters.

Luckly i don't use them as they were only used when I got the car to swap numbers from the old phone.

BUT in the contacts menu when i select one of the contacts on the SIM the 'delete' option is dulled and not accessible.

Does anyone know how to delete these contacts or just delete all the contacts on the SIM card?
