Guest Pagemakers Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Ever since the UK update I find the phone tends to stick in the diallig mode when connecting to GPRS. I woke this morning at 7 to find the phone dialling. The last email it downloaded was six hours earlier so it had been dialling for all that time. I click the red end button and redial and it connects first time. Anyone else found this bug?
Guest Bazz Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Always had it occasionally and not any more so, than before, since the update.
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Yep, I've been getting that a bit also, and as you say, if I end the connection and re-connect it seems to go fine. Not sure if it's new, I have a feeling I've had it for a while. Just in general, I've found GPRS performance in the UK to be worse in the last few weeks than it was when I first got the phone. I think this is probably network capacity issues at Orange's end rather than anything to do with my phone, and I wonder if the connection issue is also a problem at their end? Anyone with a non SPV GPRS phone care to comment?
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I know it used to happen before but I find it's far worse now.....
Guest tech_nut Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I used to find this as well after the UK update. Not sure if it was related or not, but when I checked my GPRS settings, the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS were both set to blank. After correcting these, the GPRS worked fine again. The settings (in case you need them) are:- Primary DNS: 158.43.192.1 Secondary DNS: 158.43.128.1
Guest fraser Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Cheers, tech_nut, I've been having regular problems, so I'm giving your settings a try. Shouldn't these be automatically assigned by the network though? Usually a blank setting in a DHCP enabled device means that the server provides it. Often you can speed things up by manually entering them, but you shouldn't need to.
Guest tech_nut Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Fraser, you are probably right that the DNS settings (shouldn't) need to be set, but before I set these manually, the phone would always stick on 'dialling' no matter how long I waited. Appears to be working fine now though.
Guest PsychoDave Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Yup I had the same problems and O gave me the DNS settings :? . This was pre update and afterwards I had the same probs until reinstating the values. Take it easy :)
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Cheers tech_nut. Since I made the change GPRS has connected every time.
Guest fraser Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I made the change, but last I checked it was still getting stuck occasionally. I might contact O and get them to send a SIM update, perhaps my settings are goosed all over. It may be down to poor reception tho...
