Guest Croccy22 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I am currently writing my first game for the SPV which is basically a Arkanoid clone with many levels. I am not going to get it signed and it will be a free download on my site. Can I just ask is anybody interested in this game or should I start focusing on something different. I don't know if there are any arkanoid clones out there already or if this is the first. Any feedback would be appreciated. Hopefully if there is enough support the alpha version should be out within a week. Thanx. Matt. PS. Does anyone know of an easy way of taking a screen capture of a GAPIDRAW program so I can post it on here??
Guest ClintEastman Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Sounds good to me! A native Arkanoid clone would be great! I really like the one on www.shockwave.com (in the 3D section).
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 As long as the playability of the game is good, get it out there :) for screen caps, worst case scenario, just point your digicam/webcam at the phone... You gonna post source code too? I'm relatively keen on doing a game from scratch with gapidraw, but my code's too rusty to learn/do thing myself from scratch, if I had code of someone elses completed and working gapidraw game to change and replace all the functionality with my own it'd make it loads easier.
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Yep, will post the source code as well. Will try and document it as well as I can also. Matt
Guest midnight Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 if you need any gfx let me know
Guest madu Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 great idea!! i like that game - think it's gonna be one of THE games to play on SPV!!
Guest Cent Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 You know of course that Bust'em is very similar ? Bust'em from Digital Concepts
Guest Deemon Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 if you need any gfx let me know  like wise... Im a games artist by trade so just shout if you need anything
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I could possibly do with a nice start screen. I have one at the moment but it was only a 5 minute job in photoshop. The only thing it needs on the screen at the moment is "Press Action button to start" Obviosly I may add some more options to the main menu at a later data but I can easily put some shaded rectangles over the background picture. Oh and if you want I have a template for the main game screen. I havn't done any work on that bit yet. The menu at the top is where the lives and level go. Apart from that. doodle away!! :) Obviously you won't get payed coz I ain't charging for the game but I will make sure your name is mentioned on the credits screen (Once I have written one!) Anyway good luck. MattBackground.pngTitle.png
Guest DJHope Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Isnt bust em an arkanoid clone? Bust em is supurb!
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I can't say I have ever seen Bust'em. Anyway the main reason I am writing this is to get used to the gapidraw library. The fact that I will release the game at the end of it (If it works ok) is just a side effect of the long learning process. Any ideas for the next game? Matt
Guest midnight Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 the nes game plays well, but a version updated for the spv with nicer gfx and music would rule, i suppose you could upgrade it to the quality of bubble symphonies without problems.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Are you talking about the Bubble Bobble that had 99 levels? as there have been a few variations around and have a clone of the original from the 80's would rock :)
Guest midnight Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 nah, bubble symphony was a remake taito did of the original bubble bobble to bring it up to date something which could easily be done on the smartphone os, ooh, that lovely 65k colour palette heheh :wink:3.gif
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 When I said about any other game idesa I was hoping someone would say "yes matt please make pong" or "yes matt please make Advanced Lawnmover Simulator". Hell why don't I just make Grand Theft Auto Vice city!!!! he he. Anyway I really would love to see Bubble Bobble and if I can get my head around it I promise I will try something. What I can't promise is that anything will work. I still have a hell of a lot to learn! Would like to thank midnight for the graphics for Smartanoid. Starting to look quite nice!! Anyway I'm off to try and clear collision detection routines out of my head for a while :) Matt
Guest ShAkY Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Well here is another sugestion for a game matt: A Boulder dash clone (emerald mine) or whatever it has been called through time. KIM
Guest Eran Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I'm hoping you can really try and make an effort to try porting bubble bobble. It's an excellent game and im sure many people would love to see it on their smartphone (not through the nes emu) Regards Eran
Guest Eran Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I tried looking around for the source code of bubble bobble, unfortunately all I could find was a source code for the ti-89 version of the game can it be of any help? Regards Eran
Guest Charlie Mouse Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Smartanoid sounds great, keep up the good work! Here's an idea for the next game. How about a remake of the original Namco (arcade) version of Pacman? I would actually pay good money for that... I've got the gameboy version running but its a bit too slow and not full screen.
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Charlie Mouse, I really don't know what sort of mind reading drugs you ae on but I am now totally freaked out! I was just sat here talking to my work mates about possibly writing PacMan and talking about ways of getting the enemy AI correct and then your post pops up! Well there ya go. Obviously I still have a bit of work to do to smartanoid yet. ie music, powerups etc. But I think a good pacman clone could go a long way! Howz about it people??? Matt PS. I havn't forgot about your bubble bobble suggestion but I think I need to do a few more experimental games before going into something that complex.
Guest Charlie Mouse Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Crazy!!! Do it! Make Pacman! But make it like the original, same layout, sounds etc. The reason I'm on such a mission for Pacman is because I just spent a month in Canada snowboarding and the local pub had an original table-top pacman machine. Me and my mate spent three and a half hours one day playing it (when the weather was crappy). I'd forgotten how addictive it was! Especially when you've got people bringing you beer as well... :)
Guest midnight Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 yup, pacman would be real cool, possibly 2 versions in one game 'arcade original' and 'enhanced'. basically arcade original would have the same levels as the arcade, with pretty much identical gfx and music, enhanced would be a nice new funky version with more levels, much nicer gfx and music, different power ups (fireball anyone?) and possibly even have it in landscape mode? just my thoughts
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Pacman I like but what about a bomberman clone that should work quite well :)
