It seems that Vodafone just give the Internet service on GPRS for their prepaid account but this gives you access to everything including HTML (WEB) & WML (WAP) browsing, E-mail, downloads, streaming, etc. I don't believe there is a WAP over GPRS service for prepaid.

This is all you actually need for the Internet GPRS connection.

Create GPRS connection.

Description: Vodafone GPRS

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: pp.vodafone.co.uk

User name: wap

Password: wap

Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

IP address: (blank)

In data connection make Internet connection=Vodafone GPRS

In IE tick 'auto detect' and make 'Select Network= The Internet'.

You do have the GSM dialup connection but I haven't really tried it so I don't know if it's a WAP service only. If it is a WAP dialup then you will need the proxy server settings.

Create proxy connection

Description: Vodafone WAP proxy

Connects from: The Internet

Connects to: WAP network

Proxy (name:port): 212.183.137.012

Type: WAP

Username: blank

Password: blank

Create Dial Up WAP Connection

Description: Vodafone CSD

Connects to: The Internet

Country code: 44

Dialling code: 7836

Phone number: 900808

Username: wap

Password: wap

Domain: (blank)

In data connection make WAP connection=Vodafone CSD

what is the difference in connecting to the internet by wap and gprs???please explain and if i can use GPRS do i need to use WAP????

You can use either a GSM CSD (Circuit Switched Data) connection or a GPRS (Packet Switched Data) connection as physical data link. With a GSM dialup you are charged for the duration of the call and with GPRS you are charged only for the quantity of data transferred.

GPRS is preffered because of the faster data transfer rates and the 'always on connection'.

Internet and WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) software are contained in the phone. The Internet browser is associated with HTML (Hyper-text Markup Language) pages and the WAP browser with WML (Wireless Markup Language) pages.

This is why we talk about Internet over GSM, Internet over GPRS, WAP over GSM & WAP over or GPRS.

When accessing sites in Pocket IE...

http://(address) will use the Internet Connection

wsp://(address) will use the WAP Connection

OK gsmmad

Since its nearly christmas

If you have the GPRS WAP APN working and can access wsp://wap.o2.co.uk then use the same APN, username and password to create another GPRS connection for MMS.

See page 2 for contract, genie and prepaid settings for GPRS WAP if not already setup

MMS settings

Programs Settings-Data Connections

Menu - Edit GPRS connections - GPRS connections

Menu - Add

Description : O2 MMS

Connects to : Orange MMS (or MMS connection)

Access point: ?

Username: ?

Password: ?

Programs - Accessories - MMS setup

First field: O2 MMS

IP: 193.113.200.195

Port: 9201

Mmsc Address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002

That should be all you need to get MMS working

I have an original Orange SPV unlocked for any sim. I have smartphone 2002 and a Vodafone pay as you talk SIM.

(remember you must have the GPRS/MMS update on your sim which you can obtain by dialing 191 or 151 and once you have spoken to the correct person it will be applied within 48 hrs, a little G will appear at the top of your phone to let you know GPRS is applied.

I spent alot of time researching how to get the MMS service and Internet over GPRs working on my phone. Alot of the settings i found were all correct apart from one single flaw every time and that was in the MMS settings. most posts state (incorrectly) that you should configure it to connect to Orange MMS, this is incorrect it should be the Internet.

The following setings work every time on my phone.

Enjoy

hows a goin just wondering does anyone have the full connections for o2 in ireland

Hi swartzy

Is it contract or prepay ?

This is good place to start as it will allow you to download settings to your phone. It may not have ALL the settings you need but it should at least give you the GPRS WAP/CSD WAP and proxy setups.

http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=99139

(Go to the Motorola site and download settings for MPX200)

If there is no option to download settings for GPRS Internet then try these APNs (Access point names)

Ireland O2 contract: open.internet gprs

Ireland O2 pre-pay: pp.internet

Ireland O2 Internet: internet

For instance the O2 Ireland prepaid settings might look something like this

GPRS INTERNET

Programs-Settings-Data Connections

Menu-Edit Connections

Create GPRS connection.

Description: O2 Net

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: pp.internet

User name:

Password:

Primary DNS: 62.40.32.33

Secondary DNS: 62.40.32.34

IP address: (blank)

Create GPRS connection.

Description: O2 WAP

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: wap.o2.ie

User name:

Password:

Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

IP address: (blank)

Create proxy connection

Description: O2 proxy

Connects from: The Internet

Connects to: WAP network

Proxy (nameport): 192.168.90.74:9203

Type: WAP

Username: blank

Password: blank

In data connections set:

'Internet Connection: O2 Net'

'WAP connection: O2 WAP'

Internet Explorer

http://(address) will use the Internet connection

wsp://(address) will the WAP connection

Test both connections with htpp://www.google.com and wsp://www.google.com/wml

Let us know how you get on :D

Hi justafeind

Make sure the phone displays the top centre G when switched on.

Have you tried all the possible GPRS WAP APNs (Access Points Names) on the page2 settings ?

Also tick 'Auto detect settings' in Internet Explorer (Menu-Options-Connections) and test the GPRS WAP connection by trying to access wsp://wap.o2.co.uk or wsp://www.google.com/wml
