Guest bibon Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 I am going to buy the SPV but I haven't heart any comments yet, about it's build quality. How do you find it?? If possible give examples in comparison with other phones (like Nokia 7650 etc.). Thank you very much for any answers given :D
Guest mr_tim Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 it is very solid. still a bit plasticy, but solid. I went from t28 to a sony j5 and was appaulled the j5 creaks when you pick it up, the spv is much nearer the t28 but with a breakable flap
Guest cupra Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 The build quality is fine. Probably slightly better that the Nokias I have used (5110, 8210). Hope it is as reliable as those! One thing that irritates me is how slippy the phone is. I have lost count of the number of times I have nearly dropped it. It's gona happen and probably in the middle of the street. Hopefully a cover will sort that out (not the supplied one as its useless - like a thing to carry glasses)
Guest Deako Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Having a rubber back, i think the SPV is far less slippy and cumbersome than other phones i have owned and used, that keep a solid plastic back!
Guest Oakley Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 I've owned a Nokia 63XX and a Nokia 82XX recently... I would rate the SPV on par or better than the build quality of those Nokia models... I agree it can be somewhat slippery in the wrong conditions, so a little extra care is needed when handling it. I'm not tremendously fond of the charging base that is provided - rather than aligning the handset's body as you place it in the base, it relies on the user to align the handset onto the charging socket - it's not too hard (again with a little care) - but a colleague whom bought a SPV isn't as cautious... it's only a matter of time before the handset or base get damaged.
Guest debug Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Oakley - You don't have to use the base unit to charge the phone. If you put the adapter (should be in the box your SPV came in) onto the end of the power supply, you can plug the charger part straight into the phone.

I'm using the charging base for USB connectivity - at least until I buy one of those XDA USB charging/Synch cables :D
Guest chewie Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Ive already dropped mine twice, and i only got it on wednesday last week :D It stil aint got a scratch on it, although if you got a scratch on the screen, it might be a bit costly to dismante the phone and find another new cover for it. Over all i think the phone seems solid, and like a poster above said the rubber back is really handy to stop the phone whizing across your desk at work!
