Guest Rob.P Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 [Edited by Site Admin, thanks for the submission Rob.P!] SYMPTOM: The taskbar that shows signal strength and battery definately has a bug with it's graphical update. I stood next to a friend who has an SPV, his signal was up to 3-4 bars mine was showing just the barely connected icon, yet to use the phone you would believe it had the 3-4 bars due to quality of call and GPRS connection speed. There has to be a definate prob with this as the battery has lasted longer than the graphical bar at the top would allow me to believe. Especially when the graphical representation in the power management section will sometimes show more. RESOLUTION: None Known
Guest Rob.P Posted December 9, 2002 Report Posted December 9, 2002 Okay this problem has now escalated in severity and needs immediate attention IMO. Over the weekend I put my phone in the cradle for a charge, when it's in the cradle which is upstairs I usually divert all calls to my landline, save me running up and down the stairs. I did it once and it had an error, so I thought ok I'll leave it obviously the network is having a bit of a tantrum at the moment. This all occurred on Saturday. I'm at work today (Monday) I switch the phone off and on again cause the phone was slowing up a bit, it comes back on and low and behold the call forwarding is being displayed in the top bar, hence why my mobile never rang while I was out. Just as well I had no relatives in hospital on their death bed otherwise they wouldn't be able to get through to me. Now I cannot trust what that top bar is saying under any circumstance, if I don't have a signal according to the bar then I will try a call anyway, I will not be using call forwarding until an update has been released which sorts this prob out, cause I can never be sure if I'm receiving the calls or if they are still on forwarding.

This is not unheard of on GSM - I have seen it occur with two ordinary Siemens phones. It is usually caused by the two phones temporarily registering on different neighbouring cells, particularly if the network is busy handling a lot of calls on one of the cells. Usually, the phones will re-align to the same cell after a few minutes when the congestion reduces.
