Guest Torque_79 Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 I got my SPV a couple of weeks ago, and i must say, that im generally quite pleased with it :D . Ok, the battery time is pretty bad :? , but it suits my needs. there is one thing that really bothers me, though. My signal-strength bar is always at 1 or 2 ! Before buying the SPV with Orange Net included, i used a danish provider named Sonofon. No problems there. To check that this wasn't the networks fault, i put my Orange SIMcard in my old Siemens S45i- and it showed full signal strength, on Orange Net. I sent my SPV in thursday, and picked it up yesterday. Orange said that they had upgraded it - and that the problem should therefore be solved. It wasn't. I've heard, that you can improved "connectivity" by changing some settings, but god know what??? I've also looked through this forum to find a solution, but without luck :(
Guest bobfleming25 Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 I returned my SPV today for this exact problem. In locations where I get full signal on my T68, I got no connection with the SPV. Calls were diverted to vmail and generally the phone was not worthy of being called a phone. I'll wait for a rev 2 Smartphone me thinks
Guest chewie Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Hmmm, i never get a signal over two bars, even though i have had no other problems, i am wondering if i should take it back! I'm assuming you have to return it within the 14 day limit to get a replacement, is this correct?
Guest sch Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 same here, hopefully get a chance to try a different phone on Thursday - if not, it's going back under the 14 day guarantee
Guest Bazz Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 This has been mentioned before. Most people seem to think the phone is more realistic about signal strength than other phones rather than bad at receiving a signal. At the end of the day, if you can make a call without it losing the signal the display doesn't really matter. Might just be a matter of getting used to it. Barry
Guest bobfleming25 Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Optimistic or not, the two SPV's I had in my three days of ownership both exhibited the same issue. First one could not get enough signal to receive the SIM updates, second one could not get enough strength to stay on the network. When the phone keeps dropping off the network and calls get diverted to vmail, thats the time to head back to a normal phone..
Guest xanadu Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 The signal strength indicator will be different on every phone. As long as your call reception is ok, then it is not going to be any problem. If the signal bars are too low then it could just indicate that the RSSI calibration is a bit suspect. The bars on the RSSI do not necessarily indicate the phone has poor reception. To have two phones side by side having a different signal level is not a very good test, as the phones are probably on different channels and possibly different cells. Also, as there are no replacement SPV's in stock at the moment it could be a long wait before you get a replacement.
