Fulkrum: since you are playing with the p800. SPV or p800?

U say the P800 will be launching at the same price as the 7650. Does this mean it'll be free with a contract when it first comes out? Is it due out in late Jan? And how bulky is it....same sort of size as the 7650?

Thanks!

Intresting that really screws me up :D Should i wait is the question? Wouldnt mind a smartphone right now and ive just come out of contract! But that p800 sounds great, and they arnt crippling devlopers with certification and major PHONE bugs.

Whats gonna really screw with my head is that if i get out of this contract and go to orange for spv even if i return it within 14days i cant go back to my old contract with my old number (at least i dont think i can, anyone got comments?)

And the other thing is i REALLY need a new phone my sl45 is starting to become a real bitch, i had to replace the battery because of water damage and this new unbranded one is about to die, that along with other sl45i FW45 bugs its starting to annoy me :(

I rekon im gonna hack the bugs ok, played with the phone a bit dosnt seem to bad especially if the new batch of phones coming are better. This dosnt help atall !!

Cheers for info, but youve just made my life harder (Haha)

When you say distributors I take it you mean Orange? As you should know they all have to go on what Orange charge them unless you are talking about GSM 7650's.

Actually I mean distributors in general. Orange do have the ability to control prices to an extent but if customers are choosing another network because the device is much cheaper then they do have to take this into consideration.

Hi there...

You tested the Z100!! Cool... you don't know where I could get my hands on one do I?! You must know of someone that has one lying under their desk, or someone that has one lying on their desk forgotton about?

I've been wanting one (or at least to see one in the flesh) since August 2001, when I first came across the Sendo website and was really excited....

Then they pulled the plug...

I don't expect you to know of one, but it was worth a try.... Give me something to play with until they bring out the Series 60 Z100!......... although, I think that I've made up my mind to go for the P800... reading http://www.p800.it/white%20paper%20ottobre%2002.pdf the phone just seems more thought out than the SPV, and things seem very easy to use on there.....

And I can agree with you about the refresh rate, as I saw a video of someone doing things on it - and it was I think the fastest refreshing screen of any PDA I've seen.

What do you think about battery life though? How long does it last for under "normal" use - i.e. about 20 minutes calls, 10 txts, general media use, etc... in a day?

DJHope!!! Hang in there!! My 7110 has already reserved its place in mobiheaven, but I keep giving it the kiss of life... I was going to get an SPV, but all the problems with the first version, the certification issue, the having to change to Orange, and reading about the P800.... has meant that I'm now just going to have to find a 7110 life support machine till the end of January..... I think you should do the same too, and yes I DO know how hard it is not to go out and buy the latest technology!!

A couple of things that concern me with the P800 (what a whinger first I take my SPV back then start complaining about a phone that has not been released yet :D )

1) Developing for it: Do you have to have MetroWorks CodeWarrior to do C++ development on it (I know you do for the simulator, and that is a shame 'cos CodeWarrior is about £1000! Really you'd need the sim to do debugging).

2) The screen is 4096 colour vs. the SPV's 65K colours - how do they compare on the colour front?

Hi there...

I'll tell you something about the P800 - its a good thing that I like the colour blue!!

Thanks for the advice people! Its still really irratating, notice how orange havnt pledged todo anything about certification until january erm when the p800 comes out! I rekon if they get good sales over christmas they wont do anything about it!

Damn :x wish i'd read this yesterday, before my 14 days were up and my other contract canceled with immediate disconnection :D

P800 is gonna kick SPV's behind!

SPV is primarily a phone

P800 is primarily a PDA

I expect the SPV will fit neater in your pocket than the P800.

Yeah, and then a few months after the P800 comes out there'll be something else coming out that'll kick the P800's ass! It's just the way it goes :(

Anyway, as cool as the P800 looks i don't think it's leagues ahead of the SPV....and will u be able to play Links or Worms on it, eh? eh? eh? :D

Plus, even if it's more stable and more advanced than the SPV with all it's touch screen gadgetry, it still looks like a brick....and i don't want one of those, however advanced it may be! I still want to be able to comfortably fit the damn thing in my jeans pocket! :(

The P800 is definitely deceptive on size. Looking at pictures of it you imagine a cool little flip phone, however dimensions wise... from the front it is almost exactly the same height and width as the Nokia 7650. And I think it is thicker but I'm not sure on that.

Also, I personally find the SPV in the phone market quite exciting because it is a new OS for phones. Symbian is fine but Smartphone should ultimately bring a wealth of apps to the phone from the Pocket PC development community. I also like the level of potential customisability of the SPV such as home screens being XML etc.

But of course at the end of the day it's a matter of personal choice. I imagine that the P800 will have a fantastic battery life compared to the SPV, but then, it's battery will be much larger physically...

I'm still gonna get an SPV (if they ever get more stocks) and in a year when my contracts up I'll see what's new and cool then.

Men in black is free with the p800.

screen colours, it is heads above the rest.

Anyway, take a tour of the handset and if you want to go deeper into it, look on www.symbian.com

As far as code warrior is concerned, I think it is the only sdk around. I never knew it was £1000 though. However, our developers reckon it really is quite powerful but I wouldnt know. I am only a hardware jock.

Now back to the issue in mind, this is a spv site for making the spv better not the P800. DUDES

Erm.. thats a intresting point, my brain hurts now, im gonna get an SPV if i hate it after 13days its going back even if i loose my phone number, i at least can have my own one for a bit and i can then be truely critical:)

Everything said on this page seems to be truely honest and critical, their are alot of 'hot heads' on these boards who wont even give the SPV a decient try, i have to admit 14days is a short period to truely test a phone but i think their are alot of pesimistic people who arnt giving a balanced opinion and simply say thinks like "ITS S**T I HATE IT ITS GOING BACK" when i hear a comment like that i just ignore it, id prefer to hear posts that are balanced and honest. Obviously if you disliked the phone and gave a balanced opion then ill keep my mouth shut

Oh well thats me sorted :D

Thanks for your opions guys apreciate it!
