Memory being reset if battery runs out

Has anyone noticed that the if the battery runs out the memory seems to return to factory spec, the only way to recover it is to do a restore?

It shouldn't be like that... try to turn off your phone before it runs out of power the first time, maybe the setting aren't really saved before the phone has been turned off.
