Help...when the network died, so did my phone!!!

Last night about 7:30, when the Orange network went down. I had a "No Service" message on my phone (apparently all Orange customers experienced this). Tried turning off and back on, but it just hung on the sunset Orange screen. It now won't turn off (have to remove battery), and Orange seem clueless as to what is happening. The bootloader seems useless too, can't do anything inside it!!!

Any suggestions welcome, I am waiting for a response from Orange.

Thanks awarner, seemed to do the trick! Although the Hard Reset was trickier than I expected, couldn't exit the diagnostics as described in Topic, kept on having to take the battery off.

But it amazes me that neither Orange or Hayes (correct me if I'm wrong with their name), told me that the phone was completely knackered and that they would be sending a replacement out.

Thank God for this website...Thank God some people actually know about this phone!!!

A few other things... 1) Will I have to re-unlock my phone now??? 2) Is there any way of backing up texts incase this happens in the future??? 3) Isn't Orange Backup just the best idea ever!!!

Cheers

Pete

Could be a coincidence that it happened after an outage. Two weeks ago my phone was working perfectly, rebooted it and it hung at the Orange screen. Pulled the battery, rebooted and everything was back to the defaults, although all the programs in IPSM and Storage Card were still there.

I hate to do "me too" posts, but I also had a problem with my SPV last night. It froze, then after a reboot everything went back to defaults, including ap. certification, forcing me to do the hard reset / de-cert dance again (at least OTA de-cert is now working!).

I thought that my phone crashed because I had been playing about with it too much, but maybe the network confused it...

Also Ras, you will prob. need to de-cert again!
