Guest chocobogo Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 after now having my SPV for 6 months with no replacements (still the original out of the box phone) I am starting to think about my options for my next phone. I've played about on te p800 - quite nice, bluetooth issues and hardly any software for it yet. I've seen the size of the new 3G phones and heard about the poor battery life. I really think that I want to stay with the smartphone platform as I love the way everything is customizable and am sure with future releases the number of bugs will go down. Ive been looking at the Mitac Mio 8380 and an Very impressed! I like the idea of a Flip Fone as I used to have a Samsung A300 which I liked so I think this is the right way to go. Hopefully in 6 months we may see a Smartphone 2003 platform with a lot better camera feature on it in a flipfone design! That will definately be on my shopping list come the end of my 12 month contract!! What are your thougts??
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Hopefully in 6 months we may see a Smartphone 2003 platform with a lot better camera feature on it in a flipfone design! That will definately be on my shopping list come the end of my 12 month contract!! Mitac is SP2002, and already has a lot better camera - hardware is the limiting factor on the SPV... So you don't need to wait for SP2003  P
Guest Lojt Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 My next phone definatly has to have a build in camera and smartphone platform (preferebly 2003), but thats about it. I think i'll wait like a year or so to buy my next phone, so that may change though...
Guest chocobogo Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Cant really afford to run 2 contracts at the same time so probably gonna have to wait another 6 months!!! Think I might keep the SPV after my contract runs out as a memento of the first "PROPER" phone!
Guest Machinly Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 I'm definately getting the Neonode N1 when it's released, It so small and so different to everything else on the market.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Ideally, the Samsung i600. CDMA only though
Guest Gorskar Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 That asus one is my favourite of the upcoming phones I've heard of. It's got everything!
Guest midnight Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 i cant say really, i still have 8 months of contract left, by then there'll be much better phones that are currently being shown, 300mhz anyone
Guest rocknsock2k Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 why must it be a flipphone? your asking for triuble as they always break, remember the motorolas
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Clamshell == less screen scratches/random dialing.
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Yep, after manhandling the Mio at the fest I'd say it's the current most likely contender for my next phone. It should definitely be out by the time my current contract is up, and who knows, if I can make some cash earlier and it's out I may just go early
Guest MBoden Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Definately a XScale Smartphone , the Mitac would be cool, but the Asus is the Coolest IMHO, i like the N1 , but it is too much a toy, I probably end up with all of them to be able to develop for them ;-) MBoden
Guest chocobogo Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 FlipFones look smarter, and Orange care will cover it!
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Yeah, from the developer side of things it's still a bit of a wait and see to find out whether work needs to be done to move an app from one phone to the next. Hopefully cos of the standards set out by microsoft it'll be easy, not like the Symbian 60 world where it's changes for every different model.
Guest 15 yr old Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 i want a flip smartphone, with a good built in camera! like the vodaphone one with a bigger screen! tasty
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I was impressed with the Mitac's screen but the onlt thing that puts me off clamshell phones is the bloody ariel sticking out the top, WHY??????
Guest The unexpected guest ! Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 According to this French article, Orange will launch an SPVII with integrated camera. The look will be close of the SPV and it will run on Smartphone 2003. http://www.neteconomie.com/perl/navig.pl/n.../20030416222711 Translated from French with Babelfish: Orange SPV "2" is scheduled for September In complement of Smartphone Handspring, a successor of the SPV, always under microsoft but with camera, is scheduled for September 2003. 16/04/2003 to 22:27 L be mobinautes will have the embarrassment of the choice for Christmas 2003. While announcing the launching of a smartphone under Palm OS 5, carried out with Handspring, Orange also the existence of a successor for his SPV confirms. As opposed to what thought many webzines specialized, this successor will not be SPVx, manufactured by HTC under the name of Tanager code and distributed in other countries of Europe, but another model, also manufactured by HTC but equipped with an integrated numerical camera. Envisaged for September, this apparatus, whose name was not fixed yet, will be aesthetically close to the SPV and will turn on the platform Windows Smartphone, probably under its version 2003 "Ozone". With 60.000 French customers for his SPV, Orange declares satisfied with sound "smartphone" and thus intends to widen its multi-media range of terminals. In addition to this "SPV 2" and the model handspring, Orange does not exclude besides either to work with machines under Symbian . Highly Christmas... Jerome Bouteiller
Guest Firaas Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I was impressed with the Mitac's screen but the onlt thing that puts me off clamshell phones is the bloody ariel sticking out the top, WHY?????? It seems the manufacturers find this fashionable for some reason. Anyway, won't be long before we see an aerial stub for it, like the one on the t100 below:
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Fractal aeriels (the internal ones) are the dogs bollox but they have only been around for a much smaller period of time and some of them give poor reception. Standard coiled stick out the top type aerials are simple and cheap for manufacturers to implement.
Guest meaks Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Which is the asus phone? Is it the AGP 600 ?
Guest JaToAc Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 i love my spv and only have it for the last 4 months, but yes, i'm thinking what my next phone will be. i'm not married to ms smartphone. i like the os and all the things i can do with it, but that doesn't mean i'm only going to by ms phones in the future. (still hoping that amiga one will find it's way to my desk) i'm thinking of a siemens sl55 or perhaps a siemens sx1 and what about the sharp gx1 or the Samsung SGH-D700 not to forget the neonode (pre-ordered!), just to many new phones comming out...
Guest JaToAc Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 how much did i pay for my spv without contract and sim-lock free :?: guess how much
Guest mcwarre Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 how much did i pay for my spv without contract and sim-lock free :?: guess how much  £300. Or was it a dodgy deal £200 of eBay)??
Guest JaToAc Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 hehe, no eBay on that thingy... and it was a little bit more, but good guess...
