Hi all,

Has anybody came across Error 113 whilst trying to update the SPV.

I know now I shouldn't have started, even Orange support say its not worth upgrading.

However, I'm now the proud owner of a phone that boots into the Orange start up screen and freezes. Ive followed the instructions from Orange to disable active sync USB and re-install . . . it finds the phone, queries it and proceeds to erase my currently installed software then the pc software crashes out with Error 113. . . . any Ideas on how to fix this problem would be welcome as Orange support dont seem to have come across it . . Im waiting for a call from there Level 2 support after prompting them twice this morning . . . Im still waiting.

Please help I miss my Phone.

Couple of things:

Does it give any other error message?

Have you followed oranges instructions: remove the battery, wait 30 secs, boot to canary screen, restart the update?

Have you tried running it on another PC?

Hi Monolithix,

Thanks for your input.

Ive removed the battery, waited 30 secs and more on occasion, booted to the canary screen and restarted the update? (many times). Ive also tried it on another computer thinking there must be something wrong with the USB connection of the first but it still errors out 113 at the exact same point . . . . . the phone shows the red progress bar at the bottom but with no indicative stars and the red % complete bar at the top doesnt show at all.

Sorry this is a long post but this summary of how I got into this mess may be off help? . . .

The first time I attempted the upgrade the erase phase of the phone worked ok but my pc blue screened at the start of the second phase. After disabling the usb in active sync and booting to canary screen and reinstalling all seemed to go well but on restarting the phone it frooze on the Orange sunset screen. I was warned it could take longer than usual to boot up first time so I left it 30mins before declaring it dead? After that, every attempt to reinstall causes the Error 113.

Thanx for everyones patience in reading this, I hope you can help, cheers

Ive tried it on two pc's both windows 2000 machines.

I dont think Im going to get an answer too this one, Ill try the Orange Support Boys (and girls) again in the morning then after that I assume it'll be back to base for repair or replacement??

As an after thought is there not another version of the upgrade on the internet I could download and try, or a utility to completely wipe the phone and start a fresh . . . (Im thinking I may have half a corrupt operating system in the phone that the upgrade program cant recognise so wont/cant erase??

Any more thoughts welcome, otherwise thanks all for trying.

Cheers

Thats what running it on another PC should do :/

Sorry mate...

If anyone comes across a solution for this I'd appreciate it if you'd post it because I have the same problem. The upgrade erases all contents first and then locks between 0 and 2% everytime. OS=XP but I've also tried it on a 2k machine - same thing!

AAAAAAAH!

Apparently there is no answer to the Orange Update Error 113 messsage! ;)

After many phone calls to Orange customer services I eventually got to speak to Erica in LEVEL 2, I explained my problem and the history of events leading to the mysterious error 113 message :? , after consulting with her collegues and 2 return calls she ordered me up a replacement phone which is getting delivered by courier tomorrow morning ;) . Now that's what I call service, almost a week later but THANX Erica you're a star  .

The moral of the story is:-

1) don't upgrade your phone until its absolutely necessary, and check this noticeboard for any known problems before doing so.

2) Orange are very busy!! they take a lot of convincing you have tried everything possible but persevere and be courteous and they eventualy get the message.

3) With a major problem make sure you speak to someone at Level 2, if they don't have the answers they have the authority to order you a replacement.

I'd like to thank everyone at Orange for their patience understanding and courteousness throughout this process, they have restored my confidence in help desk services as a whole. Thanx Orange you're a credit to the industry. :) :D

mmm, just tried to update mine to the 1.6 and getting this same error.

I think its related to another usb problem, where it disconnects from activsync after a random period of time...any else had this?

I'm gonna try it on another pc to see if that makes a difference

well the laptop seems to be updating the spv fine...tis just done stage 1 and now on to stage 2.

So my 113 error was(or at least seems to be) a usb connection problem...the spv was plugged into my monitors usb hub...no idea if that should make a difference or not.

I read somewhere in forum that other people have same problem because of hub
