Guest drblow Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 I'm not sure if this has been talked about before, but for the sake of rank amateurs like myself, I thought I should mention it. I run windows xp & when I download some cab files, they appear in windows looking like a winzip file (sometimes my pc defaults to a view with no file extensions, so it is very difficult to tell them from a normal winzip file). I noticed a few posts where other people, like me, were wondering about installing cab files, saying stuff like 'I extract the files & get a setup.xml & some other stuff' - this is what I see when I open a cab file with winzip. However, it is obviously still a cab file, and installs no problem when I just copy it directly to my phone - either by copying to IPSM/Windows/start menu, or to my storage card, and opening with smart explorer. Maybe this will clear up some problems for dafties like myself!!
Guest James Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 if you want to be sure its a cab file then just look at the properties
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 No, to tell if its a .cab you should have "hide known file extensions" disabled in winidows. It's stupid that it's on as default and the reason 90% of viruses are spread tbh... To turn it off, in any folder: tools > folder options (or view > folder properties for 9x) > view tab > uncheck "hide known file types". ~Everyone~ should to that, the virus.jpg.exe's will suddenly become a lot more obvious
Guest James Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 the viruses that the reception girls get at our work just by doing that is amazing!
