Guest Mr B Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Hopefully no-one has asked this before, but I'm curious ... What will you do if/when the Orange unlimited GPRS ends? For me, the usefulness of the GPRS is that it's unlimited, and since you can't accurately guage how much your using (without spending more cash!), it's hard to maintain your own limits. You know what I'll be voting!
Guest madu Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Hello MrB, doing a research? ;) Tell 'em we want it extended!! :)
Guest HungrySPV Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Wow these are interesting results so far ! Anyone know how many Orange SPV users there are in the UK, and what the financial impact of say even 20% dropping the GPRS package would be on Orange monthly :?:
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 40,000 SPV sales by then end of Feb (i think). The majority of which i would imagine are on the GPRS pack. Do the maths... ;)
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Here in Denmark I don't think they even had the unlimited GPRS offer! For us it's like £3 (2,5) pr mb .. so I don't use it much!
Guest Mr B Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Yes, around 40,000 as I understand it. However, I think Orange are banking on us finding the GPRS service too good to put down. I think there will be some element of GPRS creep, and some people will go over, especially if their companies pay!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I'll be staying on, but using as little as possible ;) Mostly email and the Planus SMS service...

Do the maths... ;) Thats a nice amount of SPVs !! I'll leave the maths for the Orange Accountants :) I think I could survive without GPRS if they didn't continue the offer. The phone has so much to offer even without GPRS so I would only miss it a tiny bit. Plus there is nothing I couldn't sync by PC that I did through GPRS is there ? I just lose the ability to check my hotmail and use messenger on the run.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 ;) Hungry: yep, GPRS can be completely replaced by the cradle, you just lose "on the move" funcitonality. As for the maths: 40,000 x £6 = £240k A month So, if they lose a large portion of the promotional pack users (take a look at the poll...) they stand to lose out quite badly...
Guest rocknsock2k Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 gprs is so slow etc anyway i barely use it cos its so damn frustrating. its lost its gimmick appeal by now for me anyway so orange watch the £££££££££££ssssss vanish
Guest superkingdave Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 not having internet at my student flat (dont even have a landline) means that i do rely on my spvs gprs for hotmail and so do my flat mates ;) but i would cut down if they stop it being unlimited. id be prepared to pay a tenner for unlimited but dont tell orange that...not having internet at my student flat (dont even have a landline) means that i do rely on my spvs gprs for hotmail and so do my flat mates :) but i would cut down if they stop it being unlimited. id be prepared to pay a tenner for unlimited but dont tell orange that...
