Guest hex Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Hi. Does anyone know of a way of reading cdmail.vol on the PC? I have copied it over as a backup, but it would be nice to have a way of viewing it on the PC if I ever need to refer back to old messages. Thanks to the guys at DAT I have been able to copy and rename cemail.vol (using file explorer ;) ) which I couldn't do with ActiveSync! Well I could rename it in ActiveSync but when I tried to change it back it wouldn't let me! Its handy to be able to free up the phone's inbox but still restore it if I need to. It also fixed my phantom SMS message!

Not sure about viewing the .vol file on your pc though... Can you see some text, if you open it with notepad.exe?
Guest hex Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 This sort of thing: À áÀ á only lots of it!
Guest Coolboy1982 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 This sort of thing: À áÀ á only lots of it! I suppose that is not the sort of thing that people would write to you in emails and sms, is it? ;-) Sorry, No idea then! If you have lost important messages though, try renaming the file back to cemail.vol and put it back to where the new cemail.vol is! Then you can read them, but have your old problems back! You could for example then forward these mails to yourself or sync them with the pc (search the forum, I think this syncing is possible) before you put a clean cemail.vol in again to solve your counter problems (or whatever problem caused you to rename cemail.vol) Hope this helps!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 dbview (downloadable from my site) allows you to view entries in databases such as these. Not a lot else you can do with it though...
