Guest GHI Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 I see that some loads doom in like less than a minute .. i load it in about 4-5 minutes, where it runs with low fps .. I am not complaining(I think it's a fabulous program), i would just love a suggestion in making it faster (And many other here would, probably). I just did a tweak and made it faster, but that didnt help Any suggestions? GHI
Guest Emad Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 Have you got the DooxEXP version? ie the one without debugging? Thats the fast loader, get it from monolithix's site.
Guest tbrose Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 Maybe buying a new and bigger SD-card would help?! - it did for me....
Guest GHI Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 tbrose .. i have 256 SD .. so i don't think it's that .. Emad: i spotted it .. i'll try it now ;) - thanks for support :)
Guest GHI Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 Yeah, it got faster - thx alot, now DOOM is playable ;)
Guest tbrose Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 man, I wish I was right sometimes ;) cheers
Guest Shuflie Posted April 19, 2003 Report Posted April 19, 2003 man, I wish I was right sometimes ;) cheers Actually tbrose this time you couldn't have been more wrong, running the the debug version of doom on a larger memory card would have slowed it down. Before MBoden released the non-debug version I tried it out on an 8MB card and the load times were drasticaly reduced, I think it might be soething to do with the fact that the 8MB card has a much simpler memory interface than my 256MB one making it quicker to write to (most of the working out of where data is written to and read from on an SD card is sorted out on the card itself which is why they scale up so well I think)
Guest biomec Posted April 19, 2003 Report Posted April 19, 2003 when I launch doom with the sd card in LOCK position , it spends less time to launch out, I think it uses the RAM of the spv, whereas if not it uses the sd card like memory of exchange, can be that I am mistaken
Guest Shuflie Posted April 19, 2003 Report Posted April 19, 2003 I think you'll find that you are running the debug version too. The reason that it is slow is because the program writes debug info to the SD card, with the write protect on it can't do this. Do you get an error when you take the card out to re-enable it for writing again? Do yourself a favour and get the updated version from Mono's site(Here), you will notice a big improvement. If you want a look at the author's site it is here
