Guest ContactBot Posted April 19, 2003 Report Posted April 19, 2003 Release of SPVx aka "SPV e100" is being delayed: Orange is holding back the launch of an improved version of the Windows SPV Smartphone [...] Hence the SPV has dropped to as little as £70 online compared to its theoretical retail price of £220. According to Mobile some 40,000 out of the original 70,000 SPVs earmarked for the UK are still unsold. So although the promised availability of six to eight weeks after the announcement has now passed, the SPV e100 mysteriously hasn't made its way into stores in the UK, France, Denmark and Switzerland yet. Guest The unexpected guest ! Posted April 19, 2003 Report Posted April 19, 2003 Well, Paul is able to confirm this?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 19, 2003 Report Posted April 19, 2003 I have heard nothing of this nature from O, but they don't tell me much to be honest ;) P
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Look at the article tho, it talks about unsold SPV stocks, with figures... OK that's probly about right. But then it says "mysteriously hasn't made its way into stores", now much as I like a good conspiracy etc, I think the mysteriousness is more likely gonna turn out to be production/software delays/mismanagement.
Guest Firaas Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 According to Mobile some 40,000 out of the original 70,000 SPVs earmarked for the UK are still unsold. Er - that means there have been 30,000 sold. Didn't Orange say there had been 40-50,000 SPV's sold altogether about a month or two ago?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Another article I read quoted Orange as having sold 60k SPV :?
Guest midnight Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 there's over 60,000 sold globally, then theres all the replacements (some are reconditioned, but some are new), but, the 40,000 out of 70,000 figure is for spv's allocated to the uk only. so, this means approx 30,000 sold in the uk, which still doesnt make sense cos i reckon theres more spv's sold in other countries than the uk the main thing which has prevented them being sold in my eyes is that there was practically zero marketing, no tv ad's, nothing. It the first of its kind, why wasnt it promoted more? hell, the 3650 may be a bit of a crappy phone, but i bet it sells well coz of the tv ads. I show my spv to someone and they say - what the hell is that? but show someone a 3650 and they say - oh is that one of those new nokia video phones?
