Guest deejayry Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 I switched my phone off,and back on again after i deleted one duplicted shortcut, and moved another, and the phone somehow reset its self, all the ringtones and options went back to default, all my internet conections got reset, and the phone seems to have re-certified its self. Also i have lost the un-install shortcuts in the remove programs screen. ;) WTF?? i tried to de-certify again but no mesage from orange this time. the de-cert only lasted about 2 hours. I have restored most of my settings, but dont know how i can get the un-installers back. Also during a sync there were some errors, i did not read the log it displayed at the time, now i'm stuck with a litle logo on the top bar when in the home screen. how can i get rid of this? Help
Guest Will Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 this happens sometimes, it's actually a GOOD thing, as without the 'restoring properties' of the phone, you could end up with a silver paperweight. Normally spontaneos hard resets are a result of a corrupted registry, or extremely low battery power. Forget about the uninstallers, the hard bits of removing an application is deciphering the registry, all those settings are now gone, so just delete the files to remove. OTA unlocking, have you tried to tell the page to 'lock' your phone, then unlock when you get the 'your phone is locked' message. What is this logo you have, can you describe it? Will
Guest deejayry Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Well i manged to get rid of the logo, it was a log file in the sync manger folder. As for the moving and deleting, i moved the shortcut for remote display control into accessories, and the file i deleted was a shortcut i created for the keyboard program (the update stuff) i noticed anbout 10 mins after i made the shortcut that there was allready one in the accessories. so i deleted the one i created. I dont know how the registry could have become corupted, i havnt messed with it myself, and the battery hasnt gone flat, the phone has hardly left the cradle since i got it. But i did see a low battery warning either just before or just after the "crash"
Guest Will Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 2 thoughts: Are you actually charging the phone in the charger? ie is the mains charger pushed fully into the back of the cradle? The corruption can come from anything, even a crash or program install. When the phone boots it checks lots of files and the registry, recreating any that are missing or damaged. Will
Guest deejayry Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Yeah the phone is actualy charging, i get the little plug apear in the battery level logo. What about deleting the files, they still work apart from the un-certified ones (Midnight's fembot & microsoft remote display host) i'm not 100% on what files get installed? And Where?

WillI agree! Normally spontaneos hard resets are a result of a corrupted registry, or extremely low battery power. Will Ah, I didn't know about the low battery power one! That's why it happened to me yesterday, just when I plugged in the charger and restarted, because it had lost the network somehow. Forget about the uninstallers, the hard bits of removing an application is deciphering the registry, all those settings are now gone, so just delete the files to remove. WillWell, I disagree! This is only applicable, if you delete the files of the apps exactly after the phone reset or partially reset itself. As soon as you have run an application again already, many of them put their required registry settings back in! However deleting registry keys is not too hard, if you have an uncerted phone so you can use PHMRegEdit and delete anything in the two software sections of the registry that clearly sounds like the application you just deleted. OTA unlocking, have you tried to tell the page to 'lock' your phone, then unlock when you get the 'your phone is locked' message. Will Don't get desperate, if it doesn't work the first time check here to see what happened to me!
Guest deejayry Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Well i waited all night an dno unlock came so i tried to lock and it worked, the message came straight away, then i unlocked again, no problems. thanks chaps i think its sorted now.
Guest skanna Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 My phone has done the same, help dont know what to do. I guess I need to lock it first and then unlock at the orange site. Helllppp :x
Guest Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 One other thing - (and I'm in danger of cross posting!) it's probably worth doing a full hard reset after this half hearted "self healing" thing, you've got to re-install and re-unlock anyway so may as well take the opportunity to do a bit of a spring clean.
Guest Symos Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 I got this "self healing" thing too, so now I'm looking for ways to return my phone to its previous state when this happens. I have a little program called SmarthoneBackup (you probably know it) which can copy the IPSM (and lots of other stuff most of which I don't understand) to the Storage Card. Now, let's say you have your IPSM backed up and this automatic hard reset happens. If you go straight ahead and restore your IPSM, will the phone be decertified or will it be app-locked? Will any "garbage" remain anywere in the phone's memory? If you first hard reset (which is a sensible thing to do) you'll need to decertify. If you first decertify and then restore the ISPM will you be ok? Has anyone thried these things? In general, what do you have to do to restore your phone to its previous state after a hard reset?
