Guest deejayry Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Ok i have been looking around the site and found a few ways of watching video on the spv, but i'm soooo confused about it all. I have two questions about it. Which is the best method to use? What is the setup procedure?
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Oh geeze, that's a tough one! Basically you need to decide which format you prefer! And then take it from there. I only have divx movies on my spv, but I don't really use it to watch a lot of movies .. I have faaar too many other lil apps I luff to fool around with on the bus *hehe*
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Hey pal... Have a look at these: Using Win Media Encoder Pocket MVP That'll do you for starters. Using Windows Media Encoder is very easy, however for quality movies nothing beats DiVX movies on Pocket MVP. Once you have got Pocket MVP installed on your phone, check these out: ClintEastman's movie trailers Not bad... I hope this helps ;)
Guest Richie M Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Yep TSCRYPTO is right DIVX is better quality and smoother the WMV, go for DIVX m8. And theres loadsa threads around here that'll help you ;) (and of course, we are here :))
Guest neuronisis Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 As above DivX is definately better in the quality department. However the file sizes can be quite large. WMV is smoother and if encoded with some of the settings posted on this site you can get good smoothness, small file sizes but with fairly good/average quality(depending on settings). I personally go for WMV because i've only got a 128mb card. Although i keep a couple of DivX movie trailers on their to show my mates(and watch their jaws drop!!). 8)
Guest mark_hunter Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 yes that is right NEURONISIS but i have successfully converted WMV into divx which enables you to watch them in near full screen along with the better quality. but hey it doesnt matter.....just thought i would tell you!
Guest Playdoh Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 and it looks like PocketTV is coming to Smartphone soon too ;) See http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=54704
Guest deejayry Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 well i had amess around with WMV and i gotta say i'm impressed. but i'm also limited to what i can do at the moment as i am stuck with the crappy 8mb standard orange SD card (i removed all the crap that orange bundle onto it. Whats the deal with using divx, where do i put the codec? is it the same as the windows one?
Guest Emad Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 You have to use a seperate program called Pocket MVP (unlocked phones only). And you need to buy a new sd card ;) 256 Mb is about £45 on ebay (look around here for the trusty seller thread)
Guest solo Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 I went for DIVX using Pocket MVP purely because it allows you to play movies rotated though 90 degrees, thus allowing you to get the most from the SPV's screen size and aspect ratio. Obviously though, there are some pre-requities before you can use Pocket MVP ... 1) You need to unlock your phone - not a big issue now that you can do this over the air (there is a link somewhere on this forum explaining how ...) 2) You need to download and install Pocket MVP. 3) You need to optimise the DIVX file to play on the SPV. VirtualDub is an excellent free tool for creating/messing around with DIVX movies, and ClintEastman has created a VirtualDub config file that contains the SPV optimised setting so that you don't have to figure it out for yourself. More details on all of the above can be found in these forums - I would normally give you the links to the appropriate pages, but I am at work at the moment and don't have the time ;) Solo

Guest looeee Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 deejayry this thread that you've dug up is really old these days the best way to watch video is with betaplayer: http://corecodec.org/projects/betaplayer/ The easiest way to encode is with PocketDivXEncoder http://divx.ppccool.com/ (set the video and audio quality down to 2) looeee
Guest toothpaste Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 TCPMP - http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/ SOMPY(mencoder frontend) - http://www.sompy.com/sw.html
Guest Dragonbreath Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 The TCPMP site seems to be down. Is there another place I could find this? Thanks! TCPMP - http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/ SOMPY(mencoder frontend) - http://www.sompy.com/sw.html
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 This is an old post! TCPMP is now CorePlayer and a commercial product: http://www.coreplayer.com/ Its a good media player for the price (but if you google around a bit you may still be able to find an old mirror of the free beta versions, up to about v0.8 iirc...)
