Guest matthewjames Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Hi, I've just got an SPV, and can't set up the email or internet features. I spent a while in the Orange shop, and on the phone to their support team and didn't get the problem resolved. I've checked the settings as per my ISP (claranet) and that seems fine. It will connect to the Orange sites in the favourites menu once it's connected to my PC via the cradle and my PC is connected to the internet, but it won't work when disconnected. I just get an alert after a few minutes saying that the page can't be found. I've had GPRS enabled as per the Orange support team, created my own dial up and I still can't sort it! I'd be grateful for any help. Apart from that I'm really impressed with it. Thanks Matthew
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 For Orange GPRS you'll need to use the Orange settings: From the Articles forum: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4861 see ~half way down the first page. Thats in Programs > Settings > Data Connections > Menu > Edit Connections > GPRS Connections > Orange GPRS For email, go to your inbox and Menu > Options > email set-up Use your Claranet login/pass/pop server and "smtp.orange.net" as the outgoing (SMTP) server.
Guest matthewjames Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Thanks for the speedy reply! I've amended the settings and it still gives the same login error!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Make sure you have the settings correct as per this thread, first post: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2780 If you want to use Passthrough your Orange CSD will need "Automatic" as your "Internet connection", and to be connected to "WAP Network" under dial up connections.
Guest matthewjames Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 all seems to be ok with those settings, still no joy... if it's of any use, the orange updates feature doesn't seem to work either...
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 You say you have only just got the SPV? It may well take 24 hours or so until you can use the GPRS service. This happened with both mine and my partners (bought at different times). I'd forgotten I had to wait for mine to start working and so was going to hound Orange but then remembered about mine! Hers started working on its own the next day without any Orange intervention. My advice before you start hounding Orange and messing around with your settings too much, would be to give it 24 hours or so. Just keep trying your GPRS connection every few hours (web browsing or orange update/backup) - and don't get too stressed if it doesn't work straight away ;)
Guest matthewjames Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 thanks Fozzie, I wondered about that, but when i went back to the Orange shop on Saturday, and spoke to the support person, he said that GPRS was enabled, and i'd had the SIM update too...
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 ok, sorry, I thought by just got it you meant today  If it was Saturday then yeah, it should be up and running by now.
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 There is a problem with not being able to use GPRS after you have been using the phone in pass-through mode. The 'fix' is detailed here. When you say your Claranet settings look fine, which ones do you mean? You should only have Claranet settings for the POP3 server setup on the SPV. Is that what you've done?
Guest matthewjames Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 BRILLIANT!!!!! That's sorted it out. cheers Fozzie!
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Excellent. Make the most of the SPV Access Pack ;)
