Guest Simon Desser Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Did anyone watch this last night? It was so cringy, I can't believe they could protest their innocence for one minute. I know it was a very one sided view of the events, but even so, it was about as clear cut as it gets ;)
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Yup, I saw it last night... How on earth they thought they'd get away with that I really don't know!! That was about as unsubtle as it gets... Amusing to watch tho!
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Yeah, I had a good chuckle whilst watching this last night - the highlight was the "NO" incorporated into one of the coughs - brilliant!! ;) The whole fiasco is now going to be made into a movie. A newspaper this morning said that (possibly) the Major could be played by Hugh Grant, His wife by Catherine Z-J and the "cougher" by Hugh Laurie. I cant remember who was to play Chris Tarrant... :) :D ;)
Guest amo Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 I missed it, got very VERY drunk instead!
Guest casper508 Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Damn i missed it. Any ideas when a repeat will be on? Cas
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Nah, no mention was made of a repeat, but if the rest of UK terrestrial TV is anything to go by, a repeat won't be too far down the track.

Guest superkingdave Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 i feel sorry for the major... he provided us with entertainment and ended up getting his behavior described by celador as sheer greed. what the f*ck do they think all the other people are motivated by? how many millions are they making out of this saga? i think they should give some of the profits to a trust fund for the children of the major since they must have suffered a lot from having a fool as a father
Guest Gorskar Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 And the irony is that the whole episode has provided ITV with much more tv and other opportunities than any regular show could.
Guest SirGaz Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 But what really made me laugh was that the guy who did the coughing then went on straight after the Major and only managed to win £1000, getting the £4000 question wrong.
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 This quote from the BBC really tickled me ;) "He also hit back at presenter Chris Tarrant's comments that the major was "nice but dim". "I am not thick. I am a member of Mensa, for goodness sake," he said. " Brilliant :)
Guest James Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Was his wife was panicking in the audience or what!! I cant believe she was even getting in on the coughing game!!
Guest youngerpants Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 I didnt see it, but to play devils advocate, I cant believe a word Martin Bashir says these days. He's managed to turn himself into a shock journalist with as much credibility as Tony Blair (oo-er, bit of politics) I have no doubt that the Major (as he is known in the red-tops) is guilty, but I dont need a sham of propoganda to tell me that sorry, my 2c, I'll get back under me stone now
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 yea, I lost respect for bashir after the MJ interview.
Guest Richie M Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 i felt the same about Mr Bashir and they had so obviously increased the volume in the coughs, so i watched the proper version on ITV2 after, what a bunch of muppets, i can't believe they thought they'd get away with it; even with the "audience" volume turned down it was so obvious; highlights - the Mrs paniking and having a coughing fit when he was going to choose "A1" instead of "Craig David" and the "Noooo" cough - what a star07-minister2.gif
Guest asif @ planus Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 I did watch most of it and I have a few points to make: * His put on posh accent had me laughing * Every question got him chatting to poor old Chris for 5 mins. Whether it was about Swiss cheese, or a hat, he started talking about it. * The woman didn't look like such a cow, I feel a bit sorrry for her for having such a dumb husband.. * Debt can lead people to do all sorts of things.. Anyways, There's my 2 pennies. Asif

Guest adam Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Cough. I'm surprised Bashir didn't accuse Major Fraud and Wittock of using the coughs on millionaire to subliminally influence children to follow them home. They were stupid though. They could have got away with it at 125K and at least they would have been able to keep the cheque then. Additionally, I think we need a Terquenwotsit inspired coughing emoticon.
Guest mashkhan Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Best TV I've seen this year. Although the commentary I felt was unecessary. They should have shown the programme without the analysis to see if we could have spotted the cheating ourselves. Then do a follow up show. Anway I bet that's the last time the Major consults Baldricks Book of Cunning Plans (vol3) on how to win 1 million pounds.
Guest adam Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 I think even Baldrick would be above "COUGH - No!".

Then do a follow up show. They did sort of, but the other way round, the original version was on ITV2 afterwards and it was still very obvious
Guest James Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 They said there was even ideas of a Movie about it? Hummm...
Guest Ras Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 I think the movie idea is a bit daft...would anybody really pay to see that??? I think not :? It was like the proposal to make a movie about Winona Ryder's shoplifting incident... Stooopid :? Also, somebody mentioned earlier about Hugh Grant and Catherine ZJ playing the couple, it was Michael Cain who had been suggested to be Chris Tarrent...
Guest mashkhan Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 I don't know, a movie could be quite cool. In fact browsing around the Internet I've found an extract from the script (they've written it lighting fast!) . As per usual with movie adaptations they've taken a few liberties with what actually happened. Michael Caine is indeed going to play Chris Tarrant. Bob Fleming from the Fast Show is cast Tecwyn Whittock. Anyway here's an exert Tarrant : Oi you, geezer with the blaaady specs. Stop your blaaady coughing! Whittock : Cough, Cough, Arse, Cough
