Guest MBoden Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 From the danish computer news site Comon (in danish) http://www.comon.dk/index.php?page=news:show,id=13805 badly translated by me : Hewlett-Packard and Dell allegedly asked several Taiwan companies about prices on mobilephones. It is Microsoft based Smartphones they are interested in , writes the German Computer Reseller New. And HP's first models might be just around the corner. It is rumored that Compal Electronics, Mitac International, Asustek , Quanta and HTC have been asked. HTC Smartphones are already producing smatphones for the German phonecompanies O2 and T-Mobile, and HTC is producing the handheld iPaq computers for HP. On Cebit in march Hewlett-Packard announced that they intended entering the market for mobilephones. Allegedly with a GPRS Smartphone codenamed Strike Eagle. This phone would be released in the autumn according to information received.
Guest The unexpected guest ! Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Sorry but the HP "Strike Eagle" is not a Smartphone, but a PocketPC Phone Edition... http://www.heise.de/newsticker/data/dal-27.03.01-001/
Guest midnight Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 it appears like two stories mixed into one for me..... looked around and the story about dell and hp making smartphones seems to be very common, however, the strike eagle reference is only mentioned on that one site, so they appear to be guessing, and got their stories mixed up. but looking at current models from hp and dell, i would say it is more likely that they will be pocketpc phone edition mobiles, but who knows
