Post update "egg timer of death"

Does anyone else find this incredibly frustrating - every so often the SPV will just show an egg timer for no apparent reason, and then hang for a few minutes (or sometimes indefinately requiring battery removal!). In normal apps I can get round this by pressing "home" and then "back", but in games this doesn't work (custom mapped keys I assume), so the appearance of the egg timer means you have to sit there and wait for it to disappear, because no keys respond. This results in a lost game of whatever you're playing and one very p***ed off SPV user! I'm sure this didn't happen pre UK update either!

Download the SPV Microsoft software update now and enjoy improved performance and enhanced battery life.

Oh, and a phone that hangs for a few minutes whenever it feels like it, but we won't mention that ;)

Apologies if this topic has come up before btw - I couldn't see it anywhere!

nope, i dont really get this, only when windows is shutting down large apps from the background processes, but is very very rare. but this is only usually for a second or two and the phone doesnt hang afterwards. if ever i'm playing games i shut down all background tasks manually before launching the game.

Maybe we need the Tweakster to do something so we can change the hourglass to a picture of Bill Gates Head or something. Won't really help the situation but at least you can growl at the BillyGlass when it pops up !

Or maybe an hourglass tone with a Southpark phrase to express our anger.

Hmm, maybe it's one particular background task that is the problem? I haven't really noticed a correlation between how many apps are running and the egg timer of death, but I'll try shutting down everything else when playing a game and see if it helps. What really annoys me is the SPV doesn't actually do anything when the egg timer appears, since going to the home screen gets rid of it! Probably M$'s attempt at "memory management"!

I occasionally get this as well but not to the extent that you talk of, just sometimes during a game or movie file, as u said tho, it goes when u return to the home screen, rather stupid really, tell it to do something else and it stops!!

I've not really had any "egg-timer" probs since installing DKupdate2 - before that it happened all the time..

Yep as Midnight hinted at, it's the OS freeing up memory as it's required  the best way to stop this happening is; before you play a Game open TaskManager (if you havent got it why not? :)) and kill all processes then everything will be fine ;)

Yep! Progs running in the background.

This used to get on my nerves. I now have the Handango file manager pack as my phone isn't decertified. Solves many problems and a must have utility!!

I find that I can't use the back or home keys to get rid of the egg timer, I just have to wait for it or else it freezes. Though it did pretty much go away after the UK update.
