Guest cyrilthefish Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 heh I thought i'd broken my SPV for a bit because the SD card slot wasn't working! but after playing around with it for a bit, noticed that if the battery level is very low (ie 8%) the SD card slot is disabled! (it worked again when i plugged in the charger, stopped again if i unplugged it) I didn't know the SPV had any automatic power-saving features! it got me thinking though, it would be very usefull if you could set the SPV to use different power saving modes depending on the battery % left ie: 30-100% screen on, long backlight timeout 10-30% screen on, short backlight timout 0-10% screen off unless a button is pushed, backlight off / very small timeout what do you think?
Guest madu Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 WKD!! Yep - sounds good to me!! And it is very poss. - at least a little util that would allow you to set 3 different powermodes and manually switch between them... But then, if only it could read batt status every say 10min and.... Yes please, someone!
Guest bdmoore Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Not come across that problem with the SD card before! Strange... Better power saving features would be cool - especially if they were fully customisable!! ;) Not sure how it could be implemented though - probably requires a change to the OS?? :?
Guest bdmoore Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Manual util as suggested by madukrainian would be cool!! Midnight??? ;) :)
Guest midnight Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 a small util could do it automatically, just needs to check the battery life left then change the reg settings for the backlight etc. heres a good power saving tip tho (and one for those wanting to turn off their phone but still use the alarm), simply turn off the radio on the phone when you go to bed, just remember to turn it on again in the morning
Guest chocobogo Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 how much batterty life does turning the radio off save then?
Guest yatpeak Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Mi phone normally dies before it gets to 8% ;) . Wyatt
Guest caio1 Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I set radio off and after 12 hours spv battery lost just 2%. Caio
Guest midnight Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 yup, at the last upgrade they increased the strength of the antenna, but somehow managed to save power elsewhere (quite clever). And by shutting of the radio there is no power going to the antenna. Theres quite a lot of things that can save power, even shutting down backround tasks helps a bit.
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 at the last upgrade they increased the strength of the antenna, Surely they only altered the calibration of the signal meter didn't they :?:
Guest Brody Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 at the last upgrade they increased the strength of the antenna, but somehow managed to save power elsewhere (quite clever). Very clever of Orange indeed! very clever indeed, battery is far more exceptable nowerdays ;)
Guest midnight Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 dont think so, my phone didnt affect my monitor for incoming calls before update, now it does, which seems like an increase in signal strength to me
Guest SmugX Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Hey, so how about an app that turns the radio off at a definable time (midnight? I mean a minute after 11:59, not Arty Tweaker Dude ;)), and back on in the morning (say, 7am?) 'Cos personally, I'd never remember to turn it on in the morning ... SmugX
Guest midnight Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 hmmm, that wouldnt be a bad idea, how about this..... an app that you can run, disables the radio, and closes any apps running in the background, displays a large clock center of the screen, so after your backlight turns off its running minimal apps, with no radio function. Press a key to turn on the backlight, all you see is a clock, you can switch off the clock at any time, which then restores the radio functions. You could also build in a seperate alarm i suppose, improving on the current alarm (different alarm for different days anyone?)
Guest bdmoore Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 That sounds excellent midnight!! ;) So when can we expect it
Guest midnight Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 analog or digital clock, or the choice of both?
Guest bdmoore Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 My preference would be digital, however a choice would be cool ;)
Guest Vector Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Yeh, digital for me, but a choice would suit everyone ;)
