Guest darrelle Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Hi, Can anyone out there that has successfully downgraded their SPV from 0.98 to 0.93 bootloader give me some advice, there seems to be 2 ways of doing this and I'm having an issue with both methods. Currently I've created a new SD with WinHEX and the 0.93 WHX file from the French site and gone through the posted procedures for transferring this back to the phone but I cannot get the option of transferring the old 0.93 to work. Has anyone done this successfully after the UK update? Darrell.
Guest darrelle Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Help anyone! I have searched everywhere for some decent notes on this in English but most of the stuff referencing this issue seems to be in French, does anyone know of an English Web Site that details how to do this? The problem I'm getting now is USBTerm says pboot is not present when I try to get the 0.93 back onto the phone yet the SD card was definately written correctly by WinHEX (well as far as I can tell it was) Does anyone have any  ???
Guest fozzie Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I've just done a couple of phones today and didn't need to use USBterm to get it on the phone. I used WinHEX to restore the image to an 8Mb SD card (because the 6Mb images were taken from an 8Mb SD card). Then, with the SD card in the phone, boot the phone into diagnostics and it will detect the Bootloader on the SD card and then give you the option to press the action key to load it. If you hit it, it will load and should say success. Remove the SD card, reboot the phone and you should be on 0.93 E&OE and all that - i.e. if you bugger your phone up "u ain't seen me right"! P.S. Be careful about booting into diagnostics once you have 0.93 installed. IIRC, if it detects a card inserted which has a bootloader on it, it will immediately load it and any other dumps that are on the card.
Guest darrelle Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 This is what I thought should be the correct process i.e not using USBTerm at all but for some reason mine does not detect the bootloader on the card. Did you use the file from the French site for the 0.93 loader? i.e the one in the BOOT.zip file? Does it make a difference if the SD card is bigger than the required image size? mine is 128Mb and I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that the image being written from sector 0 would still work it would just have spare space on the card? - could try the old one that came with the phone I guess.
Guest fozzie Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Did you use the file from the French site for the 0.93 loader? i.e the one in the BOOT.zip file?Yep. Does it make a difference if the SD card is bigger than the required image size? I don't know for sure, but I think so. Give it a whirl with an 8Mb card. Also to confirm, you are using the 'load backup' command in Winhex to get the image into Winhex and then 'write sectors directly and immediately to the disk' on the next pop-window?
Guest darrelle Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Fozzie, Tried again but still failed, I'll just clarify exactly what I did to make sure I haven't missed anything really silly - it was 04:00 in the morning!!! Put the old 8MB card in the reader (formatted first so reader accepts it) Run WINHEX, go to tools|disk tools|Clone disk Select file to be BOOT-093.whx from French site (6,601Kb on my machine - 13201 sectors) Select Dest disc, (H: in this case that shows as 6.5Mb formatted capacity) Select copy entire source, start at 0, it gives warning of "Warning, Invalid file size" but continues and writes 13,201 sectors - assume warning is because of the physical SD card difference but not sure ?? (this one is 8MB) Put card in phone Reboot, and I either get the old bootloader if I press control or the 3 colour canary screen if I don't? Did I miss anything obvious?
Guest fozzie Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Nah mate, you're using the wrong commands in Winhex - see my post above. It's file/load backup you should be using and not Disk Clone.
Guest darrelle Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Fozzie, You are a Star!! All has worked perfectly now, I was still using the clone method that I saw on the French site, missed reading that bit on your last post. Strange thing was it wouldn't work with my 8mb card but is fine with 128mb - wierd, probably faulty card. Anyway cheers for that, a happier SPV'er will now go and rebuild the rest of his phone!!!
Guest fozzie Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 No problem m8. Have a good rebuild ;)
Guest acent Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 i have 0.91 boot with full funtion. but don't know how to backup to computer, only keep SD on hand...
Guest JoelRae Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Hi, late to this one soz  as this H&E I'm hopin you won't mind if I ask what Bootloader is and why you would want to downgrade it :? Cheers, soz again for hijackin thread! Joel
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 The bestway to describe the Bootloader is saying it is similar to a PC's biosOS, it's the program that enables the phone to startup and run. The reason someone may want to downgrade can be because the older version was more stable or for example when the Danish2 update first came out it was impossible to decert unless you hacked it with the previous version, so most people wanted to downgrade initialy.
Guest JoelRae Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 ok, I see :? Cheers for the info, I've got a new UK spv so I think I'll just leave the bootloader well alone!!!
Guest acent Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 how to backup SD backup file to PC file? somebody have sw like XDA tools can read out and write speacial format with SD Card?
Guest fozzie Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 You need an SD Card reader and then software such as WinHex, which enables you to take a byte for byte copy of the SD card and save it as file on your PC.
