Hey, has anyone else got a "disappearing signal" problem on their SPV?

I'll look down at my phone, and see that I've got no signal - I normally get one in my area. So I soft reboot the phone, et voila, full signal strength - and then I usually get some urgent text messages from several hours previous. This has happened several times, but seems to be getting more regular ...

I've done the big Orange update, but not the new keyboard update thang, if that matters ...

Cheers,

Neil.

Yup, i get that - very annoying but there isnt a fix ATM ;)

I had it last night in fact, usually have 4 bars at home looked down "No Service"

Rebooted and it was fine; just one of those things we have to live with

I have a high fluctuation at my desk at work, from 1 to 4 bars and a re-boot seems to get back to 4 bars again.

I used to get this on my Nokia's as well so it's not just the phone.

not the best answer I know ;)

i am guessing its somthing to do with where two local 'nodes' intersect... i am not sure how the phone knows when to switch from one to the other (signal strength).

Had this problem this morning. Ended up getting a few answerphone messages. Then got stuck trying to retrieve them because I had not noticed about the signal.

I get that all the time too. When every other phone in the house is getting full signal strength, I can't make a call ;) .

I rarely use GPRS and I noticed that it is the cause of all reception and telephony problems!! Sometimes when I use GPRS it starts dialling... then drops all reception bars and seems like it 'reconnects' to the network. I have no problems if I have not used GPRS since reboot. I blame that...

Interesting stuff, guys ...

I do use GPRS very occaisionally, but, I have to say, with no apparent problems at all.

A bit more of a chat with some people from work (pays to be sociable, doesn't it? ;)), reveals that they have pretty much exactly the same problem with their Nokias - an 8210 and an 8310 - and they both say it's only started happening in the past few weeks ... (Roughly since I got my SPV)

Perhaps it's a geographical/signal thing then. Maybe I'll give O a call and see if they have any bright ideas. (Or am I being optimistic?)

Cheers,

Neil.
