Guest mpak Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Im new in the forums and im bit confused about whats the best bootloader or update or e.t.c.Like the 0.98 bootloader is not good cause u cant do a full backup of the phone and 1.3.7. orange update emptys the battery. Can anyone who knows write down the best versions with the fewest bugs lol ;)???
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Ideally you want .93 bootloader and all of the firmware updates. 1.3.7 does NOT affect battery life ;)
Guest FrankyG Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Why the .93 bootloader? What advantages over later(other) bootloaders? Is it to do with backups, I have read and re-read all the backup posts but it's so unclear to me  Cheers, FrankyG

Guest muude Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Has anyone got the .93 bootloader lying around by chance? Think I saw it somewhere, but can't remember where...
Guest James Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 i followed that path untill i found out that to go back to an old boot loader you need to buy the FULL version of WinHex, the demo would not let me do it. is this true?

Only if you haven't got it on a SD card, i was lucky enough that a guy at work hadn't updated so i copied his Bootloader ;) but i don't have a Card reader so i'm unable to share it :)
Guest James Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 i used to have all three winhex boot loader files, but i deleted them cleaning up last week cos i thought i would never use them! cant remember where i download them from muude! i dont know anyone with an SPV, so i cant go down that road.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 when Orange brought pout the UK update it contained the .98 Bootloader which disabled all but the Erase IPSM function  Doesn't really matter that much, I just use USBterm.
Guest Richie M Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Doesn't really matter that much, I just use USBterm. Ah but Chris you cant get the ISPM backup on a 8 Mb card with USBTerm  god knows why tho
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Hmm. So use a bigger SDcard? ;)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 The bootloader (not IPSM) is only 2-4k apparently... (thanks for the info florin...;))
Guest Gorskar Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Ah found it - this french site has the old bootloaders (scroll down to the bottom) You will need winhex to copy it back to a card though.

Guest mpak Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 SO at last. Its good to have the latest orange upgrade 1.3.6.5 (i think) but after u got to downgrade to 0.93 ur bootloader cause orange's update upgrade it to 0.98 which its sucks -lets say-. Im i right? and how i downgrade it? give me a link...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...er=asc&start=60 Start from that page for the specifics of downgrading to .93, you will probably want to read the entire thread for instructions on using USBTerm though...
