Guest dodgybob Posted November 23, 2002 Report Posted November 23, 2002 Heres the same thing that I posted in another thread! In fact there is a software called ALL-Locations GPRS Traffic Counter v.3.0.11 for the Smartphone 2002 platform! You can get more info on it from the All - Locations website Here are some screen shots that you might find useful... Note this was one of the products available on Handango as of a few days ago before they were all taken off due to Application Signing issues {don't worry they will be back in a few days}. The price for this was $14.98 buy it its useful... also check out there ALL-Locations File Explorer software... to manage your Smartphones Data! Title Screen: Some of its menus: It produces detailed graphs of usage: More Graphs: Some cost calculations {Euros are shown but there is option to change to any other currency or number format}:
Guest Cent Posted November 23, 2002 Report Posted November 23, 2002     :D Website features incorrect downloads. The CAB file of GPRS Counter for the SPV is available for download for PC Users and the EXE for the PC is available for the SPV Users. Nice ... Once you actually manage to get it onto the phone u get the next problem. Activation keeps popping up. Any reason why trial software requires activation to trial it ? Whats next ? Once you actually choose to activate you will find it can not find an internet connection ... hmmm. And if you ever get the activation going and u receive a registration key (as was the case with the Explorer tool that this company has on the Demo SD) then u will be happy to re-enter and re-enter and re-enter the key just to get .... NOTHING. It says its registered but the next time it starts its not. Its asking again for activation. No thanks. This software does not work. Additional moans ? Yes. Do not visit their website on the SPV. You can not get out of internet explorer on it then. Cause the back button keep redirecting u forward. Very annoying. Anything else ? No I am not a competitor. I am however a developer and do not like this useless activation feature after just seeing it. Is this a Trial or not ? If it is a Trial then let people trial it or loose potential customers like u just lost me.
Guest lycrawearer Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Cent Once you actually manage to get it onto the phone u get the next problem. Activation keeps poping up. Any reason why trial software requires activation to trial it ? Whats next ?Had this on my SPV. Activation took 30 seconds via GPRS - no problems at all. Certainly not had the box keep popping up like you. Once you actually choose to activate you will find it can not find an internet connection ... hmmm Again - not an issue on mine - connected & registered 1st time. Can't say I've enountered this at all ! I wonder why you're experiencing these problems ? Only annoying thing with the GPRS counter (that I've noticed) is that when the phone switched off - it 'forgets' the total number of bytes transferred so far :-( lycrawearer
Guest Cent Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 All-Locations Explorer I have the activation. It accepts the entering of the code I received in the mail, but it will ask again for the activation code and again and again. Everytime accepting it. All-Locations GPRS I can not get to activation. It doesnt see an Internet connection. I dont want to send it by mail as I don't think that will do much else than the Explorer software at this stage already does. I wonder why it works on some and not on others.
Guest Bazz Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 So how do I download and install the demo? I've downloaded it onto my PC from: http://www.all-locations.com/Download/Smar...E.SPV.TRIAL.CAB Now what do I do with it? Where on the phone do I put it? Thanks, Barry
Guest Cent Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 You need to put the Cab file somewhere onto SPV where u can get to. If you got exlorer then u can get to anywhere ... else try putting it under Start Menu somewhere (it will remove that entry during install)
Guest Bazz Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Cheers. I uninstalled all-explorer cause I thought I'd never use it. Put it in the Start Menu and it works a treat. Barry P.S. You must switch the phone on and off for the program menu to be reread.
Guest podavies Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Im getting the allexplorer asking for activation every time i go in ihave avtivated it both ways and it still ask, anyone got a workaround for this
Guest Shuflie Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Its been a couple of days since I did it so I may not remember exactly what I did but try this. Choose automatic install then start the program again and chose manual install. This gives you a code to send off and you get an activation code in return which is different to the one returned by the automatic install method. Start the program again and chose automatic install again and when its gets to the section where you type in the code use the manual install code received. Switch the phone off and on again and it should now work. I may be getting my manual and automatic installs mixed up so try reversing the process if it doesn't work.
Guest spvman Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Please feel free to correct me if im wrong, but what is the point of this program since most of us will have subscribed to the £6 a month unlimited access pack from orange?? Surely there is no real need for the average user to keep a track on how much time / data is used?? If I am missing something here can someone put me right on it please  TIA..
Guest spvman Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Please feel free to correct me if im wrong but whats the point in this prog if you are subscribed to orange's 'unlimited access pack'? For the average user i suspect there will be no need to track the data usage. I only as k as I was about to buy the prog when it occurred to me do i really need it?? tia....
Guest spvman Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 sorry bout the duplication in above posts..pc locked up the first time and didnt think it had posted..
Guest Cent Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 I think at this point in time it will help us track the amount of duplication you posted SPVMan :D No seriously ... it would help to give people an idea how much they will spend once they are to pay for it when Orange's offer ends.
Guest srcshelton Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 I looked at my phone today, and for the first time saw the call counters ... just about to tick into the 4th hour. And I suddenly felt very uncomfortable, thinking that I might have accidentally forgotten to enable keylock, and dialled some number in outer mongolia without noticing and left it connected. (Which would be highly impressive, given the SPV's reported battery life :) Then I noticed that of those almost 4 hours, almost 3.5 were for data calls. And given the fact that my SPV seems to want to redial almost every time it connects to the outside world, it must be the GPRS - and a lot of it. And I suddenly felt very uncomfortable, thinking how much data must have been transferred in that time (or what if they'd forgotten to enable the free GPRS package - eek!)... The point being (we'll get there eventually) that if you're metered for a service, then you should have access to that meter. If Orange is going to have a phone like the SPV, then the GPRS data transfer monitoring software should be built in, or free with the GPRS account (God knows, they charge enough for it...) Just my two cents...

Just my two cents... Agreed wholeheartedly! It's outrageous enough that they sell the GPRS as "unlimited" (and then later tell you it's 10Mb/month). I appreciate that £6 for 10Mb is amazing value compared to other providers... but the point remains that there is absolutely no way to actually tell how much you have downloaded! If Orange actually try and charge me for more than 10Mb then I'm gonna kick up a real fuss! To be honest I've only had my smartphone for less than a week (and I'm now finally up to speed - I've xmeled, created a custom homepage and custom WAV ring tones) and I've played with it a fair bit.... but I have no real understanding of how much/little of the 10Mb I've used! Guess I'll find out when I get my first bill! ;-) Stuart

Guest spacemonkey Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Then I noticed that of those almost 4 hours, almost 3.5 were for data calls. And given the fact that my SPV seems to want to redial almost every time it connects to the outside world, it must be the GPRS - and a lot of it. This is probably not that bad tho... the thing with GPRS is that it should be "always connected" so the amount of time it has been connected (3.5 Hours) is not a big deal because it connects up so it's always ready to use. The issue with GPRS is the traffic used. I would imagine that for probably 95% of the 3.5hrs it's been connected on GPRS you were probably not doing anything. But this is exactly why we need something like the GPRS counter because traditional measures of phone usage (time connected / SMS messages sent) have no relevance to GPRS. Monkey
Guest spvman Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Cool, i understand now... cheers for the advice... youre right tho something like the gprs counter should be free. Guess i'll look at my next bill and see what ive used..maybe buy it then..
Guest all-locations Posted December 4, 2002 Report Posted December 4, 2002 We have fixed the GPRS Traffic Counter and it does not loose it's traffic data anymore. The delay in releasing this version was because we had to wait for the digitally singing of our applications. We have also fixed a problem regarding the activation of our ALL-explorer trial. It seemed that about 1 out of 50 activations had problems, which was very strange. The latest versions of our applications will solve the problems, they can be downloaded from either: www.handango.com/orange mobile.handango.com/orange or from the ALL-locations website (our site isn't SPV ready though). There is also an exe install for our trial available now. If you have any further questions please e-mail [email protected] Kind Regards, Pieter Huizinga ALL-locations B.V.
Guest Deako Posted December 4, 2002 Report Posted December 4, 2002 All-Locations. Thanks for the update. I immediately went and bought a copy for full download and installed it straight away. I can vouch for All-Locations by saying that it does now remember how much data has been received and transmitted and also installs with the phone in the cradle. No need to copy the cab file to the phone. You get my vote of confidence, its a shame that Orange took so long to sort your problems out!
Guest Shire29 Posted December 4, 2002 Report Posted December 4, 2002 ALL-explorer (full version) I downloaded (and paid for) last week, did have probs with automatic registration so I did it manually with no probs. Excellant piece of software, must have in fact. I guess the GPRS trafic counter is a must have once the "unlimited" period is up. Cheers, Shire
Guest Vixxen Posted February 4, 2003 Report Posted February 4, 2003 Hi Guys......downloaded the traffic counter from Handango....erm....anyone able to point me in the right direction as to what to enter in each of the settings boxes?? Thanks in advance....
Guest nickcornaglia Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I know this is an old thread. I'm not sure if I should type this online but here ya go.... I had purchased a copy of this software for my T-Mobile PPC Phone before I destroyed it. After loading the Smartphone Version on my SPV...It allowed me to activate it. I guess (hope) you really only need to purchase this once and you have universal activation. Nice! Just an FYI.
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Does everyone have to go into the app, settings, general and select "enabled" everytime you switch the phone on? Is there a way around it?
Guest yoos Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I have the same problem... Have to enable it each time I power up the phone... Even though it's in the startup folder... :)
