Guest simon11 Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 What happens if you get a fault with your SPV under the warranty but not on orange care? Is it re-placed or mended? Anyone know please?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 I would say it depends on the fault but without care you could be in for a long wait ;) what's the problem?
Guest simon11 Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 No problem yet. I treat it with kid gloves. Don't use the headphones in case I get the headphone problem. I don't want to be without it for an era. It looks and feels delicate. I might have used the headphone if I thought I would get a re-placement if it went faulty. It's a shame good phone spoilt by poor build quality. The case is flimsy and cracks if dropped a few feet onto the carpet. The paint finish is peeling off all arround the base where it fits in the cradle. I carry it in a good case with a screen protector. I can see that I will have to upgrade it at twelve months if it lasts that long. My Nokias were all of a far better build quality and I Didn't use a screen protector on any of them. Dare I say that??
Guest Bouger Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 If it helps think along the same lines as any other branded handset without orange care. what i mean is that as like if you had a nokia that went faulty (only manufacturers fault only though) it would be sent to nokia to be repaired free under 12 months warrantee. A company (cant remember their name and no but i can find out if needed) are doing all the repairs for orange spv. so it would be sent off to them for manufacturers fault repair ..... and they tend to come back in about a week. if it was faulty but not manu faulty then you have three options. 1. upgrade 2. a £30 fee then care at £5 a month for 12 months thereafter 3. or a £50 one off for a replacement (emerg care replacement) hope that helps (oh and in most cases the handset is repaired by the manufacturers but if it continues to have the same problem and is sent back two/three times with reaccuring same/similar problem then some manu give a new handset ... siemens do for definate)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 So the moral of the story..... get Orange care before you get a fault ;) It took me ages to decide to get but i'm glad I did. 10hr turn around for a replacement.
Guest EMGenius Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Ok, so i disn't get my spv through orange, but they know i have one coz i had to ring up to get a new sim card so that i could use GPRS. If i get orange care now does anyone know if they will replace my spv,or my old phone (or equivelent - it was an 8210)? just wondering if it worth getting care?
Guest yatpeak Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 I'd say they would. I think they'd replace them on care whether or not you bought it from them, but you're probably better off asking Orange. Wyatt
Guest simon11 Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Thanks for the replies. I feel a bit disgruntled about buying extra cover when the item is still under warranty. I feel that I should not be paying out sixty pounds a year because a manufacturer makes a crap item. My phone is covered on my house insurance for theft, loss & accident. If it does go faulty and only takes a week to return then I could buy a pay as you go for just over £40.00 and use that in the meantime. I give my other phones to relatives. This way I am not just throwing money down the drain. I must have had mobiles now for 15 years and never had to send one back other than my first bug ridden SPV. This would have cost me £900 up to now. If I got insurance on everything I bought I would be in debt to the tune of a fortune. I will find out if my theory works as I am still not convinced that Orange care is the solution. Hope I don't regret this decision? No I am not Scotch. But I am a Yorkshireman? :) :D ;) :) ;)
Guest Honest John Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Seems to me that the cheapest solution is to keep last season's phone as a spare, keep the Sim up to date with all your numbers and if the SPV decides to go on strike, send it back under the 12 month warranty and use the spare. If the spare is on another number, use 330 to send all the incomings to the one number temporarily. Certainly saves a few bob. If, however, you can't live without the SPV for a few days, then there may be a case for some free clinical help from the NHS. (No, forget that. NHS help in 10 days? Silly me.)
Guest arunhallan Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Ive had my handset for 4months now, but i didnt choose Orange Care with it. How would i get it now, and how much is it? I ask because im wondering how they would prove i still have the handset
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 If the spare is on another number, use 330 to send all the incomings to the one number temporarily. Nice little tip there!!!
Guest simon11 Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Nice little tip there!!! Surely the spare would use the number of the sim card you put in??? EG. Your contract sim taken out of the SPV!

Guest foxy11 Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 mines currently in the HTC repair centre after the headset fault and dust in the screen due to poor seal. If you get an idiot in an orange shop like i did the most likely outcome is he will play around and change ur homescreen to try and fix the headset problem then not work out how to change it back. Also blame the dust on you having it somewhere you shouldnt (i never knew mobile phones shouldnt be put in pockets). If this happens to you ask for the manager or try and get the HTC phone number off them as they wont do a thing unless you have insurance. Of course to get this number you will have to phone customer services which will make you perform tedious pointless tasks before telling you "the computer is telling me your handset is faulty". The repair centre send you a pre-paid Royal Mail Special Delivery bag to put it in (along with a proof of purchase), within 3days of you phoning, it should then return to you within 3 to 4 days of HTC recieving your phone.
Guest alanorange Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 orange handset faults if they don't have the handset itself or know someone who has one on their team have no idea how it works or what to do if you have problems which is why most csr's will sound confused and run through diagnostics. Orange Staff do not have "training" on a phone but about 15 minutes to look through a presentation which tells them what comes in the box what the main features are / accessories available if any. and with the spv.... a quick run through on internet explorer - wap and internet windows media player - plays .mp3 .wma and .wmv orange update - keeps phone uptodate - through gprs orange backup - backs up handset data - contacts etc through gprs and goes on. orange staff if you ask them are not knowledgeable and may put you on hold while they try and get some help from other people they learn about common problems when they have had enough calls about the same things and learn from that. Try not to get frustrated with the staff answering your calls they are doing a job that they are not really trained but lear from experience just like us spv users - whereas we have to get used to one phone they have to get used to every phone on the orange network. sorry if this was a bit much to read but it annoys me how u can moan about orange csr's without knowing the background in how they work. if a csr doesn't pick things up quickly they forget it and others pick things up quickly which is why you will probably get different answers - if someone gives you a fast answer ask them to double check - don't take everything for granted unless you make them notepad what they said to you - ask them to check your balance - if they are billing trained they will also leave a trace of who they are even if they said they notepadded and didn't. end of my rant!!!
Guest foxy11 Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 hopw my post wasnt misinterpreted ;), i was just a bit annoyed at the lack of respect and they way in which he served me as a paying customer, seems i vented my anger a little to critical of his skills :). My main problem is the fact he was really off with me and arguing with me about my phone and what i had done/not done with it, he also complained at me for changing my homescreen. The CSR on the phone was actually pretty useful and seemed as annoyed as i was to have to go thru the pointless task of confirming my handset as faulty. Anyway my phone is still at HTC, hoping it'll be back within a few days all working and nice :D
Guest simon11 Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Sounds like the type of service Ondigital used to give. One bloke annoyed me that much that I had to tell him to Fook off.
