Guest jm-darcy Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Hi all, Came home from work today all full of joy knowing full well that my SPV had arrived. I popped in sim-card and battery and memory card and switched it on! It came up with: FOUND CARD followed by: press any key to enter bootloader press and hold action key to enter diag. If left it goes on to the Canary three coloured screen. (v0.91) If I then start the phone and hold down the second button on the left and get into the diagnostic I can erase the IPSM. I get the passed message after a minute or so and then I press left twice to go to end. It then goes to 3-coloured canary screen again. If I reboot, the phone then does exactly the same thing again. Please help me. I do not know what I am doing and could really do with some suggestions. I have read many pages from this forum but cannot find one that describes the problem as I seem to have. All help will be gratefully received. I do not want to wait for a week to send this SPV back and get a replacement if I do not need to. Kind regards, James
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Sure you aren't holding the "Record" button at the same time? That mode is usually entered in that way... Try booting without the SD card in as well...
Guest jm-darcy Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Thanks for your reply. I am not pressing the record button and I have tried without the SD card. I have "wiggled" the record button a bit and it seems to be fine, certainly no different from the volume buttons. The only difference without the SD card is that the CARD FOUND message no longer comes up when I first switch it on and it goes directly to: Press Any Key To Enter Bootloader Press And Hold Action Key To Enter Diag. By the way, I cannot get the charging light to come on?! As soon as I plug in the charger or put it into the cradle, the thing powers up and no charging light is visible! Any ideas. Cheers - James
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Er...Sounds liky you have a duff phone. Is it new or off ebay? You might want to try applying an update for your country, see if it helps...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Sounds like it's had a failed update. I would let it get to the canary MV screen, then install the Orange update for your locale. Get the UK, French and Swiss updates here: ftp://download.orange.com/ P

Welcome to the site ;) As you are getting the "press any key option" and the Canary screen when you are not pressing the record button, I would suggest that the record button is faultystuck on (I have had this with the action button) So it will be a return to Orange :) If you took out Orange care you could get a replacement within twentyfour hours.
Guest jm-darcy Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Hi all, Thanks for all your suggestions. I have decided that I will wait until I have spoken to the shop manager before I play around with updates etc. I bought it second hand from a shop and so I assume that he will help sort it out. I do not know about the record key being stuck as I have never had it on to find out whether it works or not!! The charging light - does that offer any kind of clue?? Thanks for all your suggestions and I will let you know what happens. Kind regards, James

I do not know about the record key being stuck as I have never had it on to find out whether it works or not!! I had exactly the same symptoms and as it is a secondhand phone the chances of this being the problem is greater. The charging light - does that offer any kind of clue?? Not for me at the moment sorry can't think of anything  Good luck ;)
