Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Hello: I live in the US and still can not get MMS to work under T-Mobile. This isn't a big problem because I don't know many people with MMS as it is not really here yet. I do have questions abourt MMS, though. I subscribed to eMail alerts thru CNN for Breaking News. The email address I suscribed was [email protected] (My SMS address)which is how someone could text message me from their email client. This is not my POP email address....just my SMS address. After switching to my SPV, the alerts now come over as MMS messages that I can not retreive. I also had a friend send that same address an email with a picture attached and it cam over as an MMS that I cant retrieve. Not only can't I retreive them but they get sent to me 30 times each per day for the last 5 days. I have since unsubscribed to CNN text alerts but I believe the original problem alert continues to be sent to my phone as my friends message keeps trying to download on my phone...after deleting them both over 100 times. My guess is that sms can only read text. My friend sending the pic confused my phone and the CNN mail must have been in HTML which this phone cant convert to text like my T68m could. What should I do??? Is this common? If I sent an email to your phone's sms account via email with an attachment or in HTML would MMS be able to retrieve it??? Am I making sense?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 This may be a better question. I ran thru the MMS setup as described on this site. Is there any way to disable MMS on the phone? Revert back to before I ran the MMS Set-up application....other than a hard reset?
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 SMS mesages were originally sent over the signalling network but in T-mobiles case the SMS may have been transferred to GPRS WAP. Have you GPRS WAP working correctly ? What happens if you goto IE and try and connect to wsp://orange.multimedia/ or http://wap.myvoicestream.com or any other WAP site.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 page can not be found. I tried 2 different connections I set up on my phone. 1) internet2.voicestream.com 2) wap.voicestream.com both work for other sites.
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I've also metioned this in next post for someone else. Goto internet explorer-options de-tick auto settings Make 'Select Network = WAP network' and try to access WML pages (WAP sites) and then make 'Select Network = The Internet' and access HTML pages. Use option properties on web page to check if WML or HTML pages. If you can access both, then re-tick auto detect settings. To get WAP working you need to create GPRS connection for WAP WAP proxy I would get GPRS WAP working first and see how you get on from there.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Martin: I didn't thank you for trying to help me. wsp://orange.multimedia/ http://wap.myvoicestream.com both say connecting.... finding site... connecting.... then the page can not be found alert. Other pages do work (http:// pages)
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Do you know what the WAP service is called for your network, Is it T-zones ?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I believe it is called T-Zones. I cant seem to connect to any wap sites.. Just the http sites.
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 You could try this. Create proxy Description : Tmobile WAP proxy The Internet, WAP Network, 216.155.165.050, WAP Create GPRS connection (WAP over GPRS) Description: Tmobile wap The Internet, wap.voicestream.com, username (blank), password (blank) I have used the WAP information from here. http://www.t-mobile.com/help/services/tz/config.asp
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Okay...good news and bad news and questions. First...Thanks sooooo much for helping me. I really appreciate it. It's hard to get help with this phone here is the US. This message board is GREAT but some people just bypass my questions since it may be a US problem that they have no information about. Good News: My MMS is working. I sent myself 2 MMS messages and received them both. There are a few possibble T-Mobile APN settings. wap.voicestream.com internet2.voicestream.com internet3.voincestram.com(which I am told is for VPN users) I was using internet2 as I was told to do by T-Mobile. After testing...I've found that MMS doesn't work over internet2....only over wap.voicestream.com.....So that problem is solved by setting the APN to wap.voicestream.com as my GPRS connection. Bad News: I still can't get onto WAP sites. HTML sites, I get just fine. "Page cant be found" alerts when I try the WAP sites you listed. I can get to HTML sites just fine using either WAP or Internet2 as my settings. But I cant get to WAP sites using either. I created your proxy. How exactly is that called to be used? Or is it always used? There were 2 proxys listed, my guess is, as a result of syncing to my work PC, since they were both listing my company's proxy servers. One was HTTp and the Other was SOCKS. I deleted them both so I'm not sure if they were the problem or your fix was the solution. If they recreate when I resync on Monday on my work PC.... I'll see if they pose the problem again.
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 After testing...I've found that MMS doesn't work over internet2....only over wap.voicestream.com. Yep, MMS is a WAP service The 2 proxy you deleted were standard setups for corporate conection and these will have been OK. Do you have any other proxy setups which contain 'connects to: WAP network' ? That could cause a problem.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Nope...no other proxys except the one you had me create. If you get any more ideas on getting the WAP service to work, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Again. Nick
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I assume that you have re-ticked the 'auto detect settings' or made select network=WAP network in Internet explorer. If auto detect was off and you had 'Select Network=The Internet', then it would not allow WAP pages. If you continue to have problems with WML pages via GPRS WAP, try and conenct using GSM WAP (Circuit Switched Data). Create Dial up connection Description: Tmobile CSD WAP The Internet, 19, 132, 440821, wap, (no password) (dialup is +19132440821, adjust above if necessary) In data connection make WAP connection = Tmobile CSD WAP
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 what country is that number???
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 what country is that number??? The US - I think... Do a google or yahoo search on +19132440821 Is this the right number?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Then the setting should probably be: Create Dial up connection Description: Tmobile CSD WAP The Internet, 1, 913, 2440821, wap, (no password) 1 as the country code 913 as the area code that didnt work, but I'll keep trying. Unmeasurable thanks. Nick
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 You say MMS seems OK ? (WAP service is up) Therefore I would try another phone (nokia or something else) and see if you can connect to WAP Internet pages (or via GPRS WAP if available). This could prove if T-mobile has a problem with routing of WAP calls. It is possible that WAP data calls for Internet access can be sent to separate routers in the mobile network ? There could be a fault.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I just switch my card out into my T68m yesterday and WAP was working fine. (T-Zones and other pages.)
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Have you compared all the settings in your T68 against the SPV. There could be something different. Could also be worth trying a DNS address 208.014.205.005 in the proxy settings.
Guest martin Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Good News:  My MMS is working. Just to confirm. You should have two GPRS connections created. One for HTML sites which is APN:internet2.voicestream.com One for WML sites which is APN:wap.voicestream.com. In data connections, the Internet connection should point to first and the WAP conenction point to the second.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Okay...this is the second time I am posting this (I crashed & lost the original post before I submitted) so I'll try to be thorough even though I'm pretty ticked off right now... Here are my latest settings followed by my latest results: DATA CONNECTIONS: Internet Connection: T-Zones Work Connection: None Available WAP Connection: T-Zones WAP Secure WAP Connection: None Available GPRS CONNECTIONS: T-Zones Connects to: The Internet Access Point: internet2.voicestream.com User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50 Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50 IP Address: T-Zones WAP Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.voicestream.com User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50 Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50 IP Address: PROXY CONNECTIONS: T-Mobile WAP Proxy Connects From: The Internet Connects To: WAP Network Proxy (name:port): 216.155.165.50 Type: WAP User name: Password: INTERNET EXPLORER > MENU > OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS: Automatically Detect Settings: (checked) Select Network: The Internet MMS SETUP: Connection: T-Zones WAP IP: 216.155.165.50 Port: 9201 Mmsc Address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms Message Expiry: MAX Delivery Report: (unchecked) Read Report: (unchecked) Hide Sender: (unchecked) MMS Download: Auto RESULTS: 1) I can send and receive MMS Messages just fine. 2) I can visit HTML pages just fine. 3) I can not visit WAP pages... ...when I try to go to wap.myvoicestream.com, I get this message: Dialing.... Loading.... An internal gateway error prevents the gateway from fulfilling your request. I am still trying to figure out this myself. As soon as my son goes to sleep I will call T-Mobile again and see if they could help. All the effort given thus far as well as any additional help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Nick
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 same errors. You wanted me to change the DNS in rthe T-Zones WAP...correct?
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Saw this elsewhere - worth a try. Replacing DNS numbers with relevant market West 216.155.175.40 alt 216.155.175.41 East 216.155.175.170 alt 216.155.175.171 Central 216.155.175.105 alt 216.155.175.106
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 no good. I actually recognize the east coast numbers from the one time I spoke with a t-mobile rep. I really appreciate your efforts. Do you think the proxy is interfering?
