Guest drblow Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Here's my system status according to taskmanager- Phys. memory - free :5288 IPSM folder - free :5.17 mb Storage card - free 12.06mb (of 60.58) I have done the speed up tweaks. The whole phone operation seems slow. Pocket MVP will only play 1 file & need restarted & while playing the eggtimer comes up alot & video freezes. When I'm on gprs streaming video I get about 3 secs of video to every 10 secs of buffering. Even just scrolling through the program menu the phone seems to grind all the time! Everything works, just in slow motion. What's happenin'?
Guest madu Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Go to: IPSMMAPI and check for files in there - they are all either your Sent Items or Inbox that is over 160char, or Drafts/Deleted, in one word - you messages. They can all be safely deleted, but you might lose some of those messages you need. I suggest you clear all your Sent Items (have to be deleted 1 by 1, try using Soft2>4; or download SMS Tools to delete in bulk). Then check your Inbox for large messages and Drafts. Then empty Deleted Items folder and you should see a little speed increase. These files do make it slower (at least it happened on mine before). If you allready tried that, then the only thing I can think of is Hard Reset....
Guest drblow Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Yeah, I did empty the MAPI folder, & I have sms tools. I usually delete sms msgs after reading them, and I rarely get large emails to my phone (if I do I active sync them to pc straight away & the delete them from the phone). Well, it's not going slow enough yet to warrant a hard reset - it would take me all day to get the phone back to the state it is in now! Thanks anyway Madukanian!
Guest James Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 GPRS is the same for me also the only one file problem in pocket MVP is also the same for me... before and after a hard reset
Guest Hax Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 I think the GPRS problem is just something that Orange have screwed up in the last update - streamed radio worked fine before (IIRC!) Kinda makes the SPV mobile video trial rather pointless other than getting your GPRS paid for ;) I've not bothered to look at any of the cliips after about day 2 as it was just too painful to waste 5 minutes to see a 40 to 60 second poor quality clip - anyway, that rants for another thread I'm sure! Hax
Guest drblow Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 The gprs thing isn't update related for me - I haven't done the latest update - no keyboard, no point I figure!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Someone posted here a while back that Orange had admitted to messing up the streaming AV buffer in WMP...
Guest madu Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Erm... it can be changed in registry - as in the buffer settings.. Not sure how that should be tuned though... and whether it's anything to do with these settings... HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWin.MediaPlayer8...
Guest Hax Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Mono: I think the problems a little more fundamental than a quick tweak to the registry (unfortunately!) drblow: The update that I was referring to was the "first" UK update at the end of February the brought the version of the phone up to 1.35.06 That's the point at which most noticed that GPRS was suddenly crap! When I signed up fro the mobile video trial with O, I got an e-mail from the trials team containing the following information: Issue: Buffering. The video clips only play for the first 10 or so seconds in the buffer and then stop to reload. Response: This is a known SPV fault, it is not a problem with GPRS. It appears that the handset will stop the video and start buffering somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds into a clip. This happens regardless of the amount of data the handset has received - i.e. it will even happen on downloaded clips (though won't be as noticeable). A fix for this is in development. To me, this says that O have stuffed something up somewhere - and in quite a terminal manner (at least until the next update comes out!) Hope this helps to clarify the GPRS issues flying around - knew I'd read something about it somewhere - just spent last two hours seraching the web for it only to find it in my e-mail inbox! DOH! HTH, Hax
Guest drblow Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Hax - Do you reckon this would affect GPRS connection (ie. the stuck on dialling... problem)??
Guest Hax Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Couldn't say for sure - but I wouldn't be surprised if these things are linked in some way - software bugs are know to quite often have a ripple or domino effect on the rest of the software! ;) Think of a software bug as a stone, then throw that stone into a quiet, still pond. The ripples that spread out from the stone are the effects that the software bug has on the software as a whole. Anyway, enough of the "pretty" analogies - time for me to go home! :) Hax
