Infra red specs and using SPV as a remote control

What's the distance it can cover?

Is anybody using it as a remote control for TV or PC?

Where can I find more info?

It's a question that's been asked lots of times, as far as I'm aware there is no app currently available or in development to use the spv as a remote. The SPV doesn't nativly support the CIR protocol, which all TVs videos etc use, so It would be difficult to make such an app.

I'm not even sure if the LED is strong enough, but given that it can be done with an IpaQ it could be.

AFAIK it very much depends on the hardware, Palms can also do it, but Psions can't, even though they are both using the IRDA standard.

Just as an aside - I'm having real problems trying to IR a file to my friends T68i - can it be done?

BTW: Modaco Plus is fab - just got my PM for my free Smart Explorer and Task Manager licences - Thanks Paul ;)

Well, there were some questions about this issue. Appearantly there were no answers.

Nobody answered one of the questions above, I just wanna use it on mine pc in the livingroom. I've software to program keys on a ir-supporting device for windows so TV isn't necessary.

Help?
