Guest digitalsakura Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 After downloading the orange spv update I installed the program and every thing seems fine, at the last stage of the installation an error message pop up saying could not update SPV. Every time I start my phone a message ‘ CARD FOUND’ and the three colours screen comes up. I pressed down the action key and tried to erase IPSM, The erase IPSM passed I then shut down the phone, But when I restart the phone the message ‘CARD FOUND’ reappears. So basically I can’t even start the phone to the orange logo……….. HELP!!!!!!!!!
Guest bdmoore Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Have you got an SD card in the phone? If so remove it and restart again...
Guest digitalsakura Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Yes I did, I removied it and started the erase IPSM, passed and then I taken the battery out, waited 30sec and replaced it and still the same.
Guest bdmoore Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Strange one.... Sounds like the record button could be stuck down, cos it shouldn't go to that screen unless the buttons pressed :? Not sure what to suggest other than that I'm afraid!
Guest digitalsakura Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I would love to try re-running the update software, but I cant even open the orange logo, every time I start the phone I always go to the colour screen or if i hold down the action key go to erase IPSM. even if I do erase IPSM it still wont load to the orang spv logo. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Like I said re-run the update Quote from mono to save me thinking at this time of the morning  Try running the update again. If this doesnt work (you'll probably get a timeout error), try and find a mates PC (preferrably running win2k or xp) and run the update again.
Guest damianbyrne Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I had the same problem, Called Orange and they diagnosied the phone as having a fault (Damn Right) THey replaced the phone as there was nothing they could do as the OS has fell over. Hopefully if you are on Orange with insurance etc, they will replace it, just ecplain to them that you were trying to do the update and this happened HTH Damian
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I've just had my SPV replaced but its has taught me a MAJOR lesson. From the begining, buy youself an SD card, backup you phone and then write protect it. Keep it hidden away forever in case of emergencies. While doing a backup up to my SD card from someone elses SPV, their WINCE in the phones memory must have had a glitch. Their phone would no longer get passed the sunset screen on bootup. I did not realise this before uploading the backup to my phone after which I could not could get passed the sunset screen. NOTHING WOULD WORK. I erased IPSM several times and I then I re-loaded the Orange update susccessfully from the tri-colour screen (I know this worked because the bootloader version changed) - the phone still would not load WINCE. Trying everything to get it to work, I eventually corrupted my phones bootloader and could not access it. My only option then was to replace it. The other phone was restored simply by copying WINCE from a working SPV using the PC version of bootloader and restoring it on the faulty phone. The phone then booted up correctly. Here's the strange thing - after bootup, all files were still present on the phone even after the IPSM resets that were done. Communication to the phones memory must have completely broken down and IPSM resets were doing nothing and the phone had completely refused to re-initialise, all this was due to WINCE in the main memory. I originally thought that IPSM resets restored your whole phone. I'm not so sure now. It would be a good idea if Orange shops kept a standard SPV full backup on an SD card so people could go and do a complete restore to main memory via bootloader if things went wrong. Maybe this could be a MoDaCo service (only for + users of course) ;)
Guest digitalsakura Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 where could I get the PC version of bootloader? is it on the cd?
Guest digitalsakura Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I’m in this situation. I’ve brought an SPV phone on ebay.co.uk with out a sim card. I’ve also got the original Orange receipt from the seller. I went to an orange shop today and they told me that the phone could not be replaced or fix because the original sim card wasn’t in my name and phone, also he said the warranty was broken because I’m using another sim card (Pay as u go) in the phone. But still, I’m sure that the manufacture warranty is still valid Even if the phone is using another sim card. Can anyone give me any advice? What can I do?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Have you tried my advice? This is a known problem with updating your phone, and the solution i have given you works most of the time. If it does not work (even on another PC) then you will have to send your phone off for repair, Orange should still be able to give you a contact number. Regarding the warranty you will have to find a copy of the small print as sale or transfer will normally invalidate any such contract.
Guest digitalsakura Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Yes m8 I have, First I put the phone in the cradle and plug in the ac/ power at the back of the cradle. Then put the phone on the cradle and plug in the usb. Turned on the phone with no S.D. card in it. The message ‘ press any key to bootlaoder’, hold downthe action key and Erase IPSM. Turned off the phone when Erase IPSM had pass. Turn on the phone and the message ‘press any key to bootloader’ comes up again, Even if I restart the phone it’s the same message. So I cant even connect to Microsoft ActiveSync or the update file.
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 When you are on three colour screen does it say SERIAL at the bottom of the screen that changes to USB if inserted in the cradle. If so, try and run orange update from this screen.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I had the same problem. First off, make sure its on the Canary Tricolour screen, then plug it into the cradle with the power and run the update again. You may get a timeout error (110 i think). If you do then REGARDLESS of what the instructions say, try rerunning the update on another PC, again leaving it in the Canary Tricolour screen before you start. This worked fine first time for me with no further problems. Try that and let us know how you get on.
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 If all else fails - here's a post about warranty. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=55047 You could try and give them a call find out what position your in. I would first try and recover the phone yourself using the above recommendations. Sending away should be a last resort. Also consider Orange care which customer services may be able to set up for you. Seeing how temperamental these SPV's are I'm begining to think its not such a bad idea.
Guest digitalsakura Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 wooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooo it works thanks for all your help. ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 So you finally ran the update? wecome back to the land of the living ;)
