help I wanna play movies on the train?

I know its been asked before somewhere .... has anyone actually managed to copy & play a DVD onto SD card for SPV & standard WMP player. Ive got Agent provocatuer ad on there so know it plays pretty good quality video from non copyright stuff but which apps do I use to copy the shrink wrapped DVD in the first instance so I can compress & load into SPV.....shouldn't really have any copyright issues cos I own the DVD so I've already paid once in 8) my mind its still for personal use.
