Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 When I go to my inbox and click new...message.... If I pick a mobile number it obviously creates a sms message and sends fine. If I pick an email address...it assumes I am creating an email an places the message into my outbox sending only when I send & receive. :?: Is it possible to send an SMS to an email address??? I'm almost postitive I used to do that on my other phones.
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Add email address to contact info. goto new message. goto add and press action key.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Goes right to my Outbox as an email waiting to be sent. I went into my Inbox. I click on Menu Clicked on Add To: Picked my name gave me 3 options one being my email address. Put my name in the To: box - Lastname, Firstname; added some text in the message field. hit send....right to my inbox
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Simple answer no :) You have already answered the question your self ;)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003  I'll chalk that up as a NEGATIVE for the phone OS! Thanks for the responses! I'm learning alot. Nick
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 SMS messages will be transferred over the GSM network if sent to another mobile (this will be done straight away). To send an SMS to an E-mail address, you will require a GPRS session. Send a message to an E-mail address which will go to you outbox. Then use send/receieve to activate a GPRS session for data transfer. After successfull transfer, the files should move from outbox to sent items.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I guess since I have my ISP email set-up on the SPV...it defaults to that. I would guess that your option would work if I had never set-up an email account on my phone. When I receive the mail, it's return address is my ISP email address...not my phone number or [email protected] which means that it IS being sent by my email account not SMS. Limitation of the phone has been noted! Thanks for your help.
Guest martin Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Remember to go to inbox-menu-option-Email setup. I don't think Tmobile USA issue an outgoing mail server. You may have to check what other people use (maybe yahoo's mail server or somewhere else) . Unless you've already done this.
Guest zuel Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 I have the same issue. First off. I do not want to setup E-mail on my phone. I like the way my E-mail Hot-Syncs to Outlook and would not change that. Second this works on my V60i. I should be able to specify, as I do when I goto contacts/menu/send sms. It should not care about the contents of the to line, after all I specifically chose "SEND SMS" not "SEND SMS UNLESS E_MAIL ADDRESS SPECIFIED" So, I would gladly take any third party utility or fix/hack you guys are aware of! Zuel
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Not sure if I've understood what you're after correctly, but you can send SMSs to email addresses using this free service: http://www.sms2email.com Send it like this: [space] [email protected] hello fred how are you? To this number: 07766 40 41 42 It works on any phone, you don't need to register, and it doesn't cost anything (other than your outgoing SMS cost that is). Try it out on your own email first so you can see what the email looks like.
Guest adverse camber Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 http://www.sms2email.com/site/howitworks.php based on that link though, I wouldn't use their service, no matter how clever it is. They sell sms spamming solutions and I hate unblockable unsolicited spam.
Guest afroahmed Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 uh ohi i think i just signed up...does this mean i will get a lot of spam now???
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 No you won't! I've been signed up for a year now and haven't had anyThey sell sms spamming solutions and I hate unblockable unsolicited spam Oh, c'mon! They sell SMS services, which includes bulk SMS sure, but the main thing they provide in 2-way SMS services that can be combined with PC/Network apps (we use it to monitor and remotely control servers) Anyway, on the bottom of the email you receive (converted from an SMS) there is a link to stop receiving any and all messages from them.
Guest MECX Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 You can send MMS messages to email addresses.--will cost you tho--might as well email it .
