Guest danspv Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 The SMART phone..... To get recieved SMS messages to display the sender's name you need the number to be in international format. Only then you can't dial it from the contacts cos there's a bug with the "+" part of the dialing code. Smart. You can run multiple applications. Actually you have no choice because you can't close them down. Then it slows down. Then you have to turn it off and start again. Smart. You can surf the net. If you can be @rsed to spend an hour typing in the URL. Smart. It's got a camera. The only way to take a picture is through the MMS. Can you email the picture? No. Smart. Put the key lock on. Press a button. The phone lights up. The battery dies. Smart. The phone crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes.......... Some people in this forum say we should expect this with a new phone. Don't talk bollox. What I expect with a new phone (or any product) is that it works. No (or very very few) bugs. What is the job of testers? You can not tell me that this phone has gone through any product testing. It's pathetic. And Orange - protecting their network with certificates... yet they don't give a t0ss about releasing such a sh1t piece of software in the first place. I mean the OS is that bad it would fail the certification process. I took my 2nd SPV back to the shop today. The first one died after 2 hours and refused to boot up. Good riddance.

However one of my mates had a Motorola clam phone which had the same problem. don't know if he tried putting +44 though, but supposing that didn't work - then he had no solution! You can run multiple applications. Actually you have no choice because you can't close them down. Then it slows down. Then you have to turn it off and start again. Smart. I like the principal of this, it means my game stays on the level I left it at. Because of the size of the screen implementing a taskbar would have been too much. I would like a way of force-closing apps, but you can always turn your phone on and off for this. You can surf the net. If you can be @rsed to spend an hour typing in the URL. Smart.Errrm you did look at the phone before you bought it and notice IT WAS A PHONE!! Yes, typing's a pain (especially if you don't delete your history which causes it to slow). but it's a freakin' phone so I'm sorry it doesn't have a 102 button keboard! Use your favourites. It's got a camera. The only way to take a picture is through the MMS. Can you email the picture? No. Smart. Yup, it's a pain having to use MMS to take a photo, but once you're in you can take as many as you want and save them, without having to send them. Guess Orange are just trying to encourage you to use MMS. I'm sure there'll be an app out soon to take photos directly. It'll probably cost, which sucks, but anyway. MMS also allows you to e-mail photo's so I can understand (though not agree with) Orange's decision to not allow phot attachments for e-mails. Put the key lock on. Press a button. The phone lights up. The battery dies. Smart. I agree a fault, there should at least be an option to turn this off. The phone crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes.......... Then send it back and get yourself an older phone. I haven't had any bother with mine, and am keeping it. Some people in this forum say we should expect this with a new phone. Don't talk bollox. I mean the OS is that bad it would fail the certification process. The point is not that it should be crap, the point is that any new product will have bugs no matter how strict the testing. The SPV is more radically different than any other phone or PDA on the market. It has a brand new OS on a brand new phone. I bought it expecting a few problems and have been happy with it. If I wasn't prepared to deal with these problems I wouldn't have bought it the first few day of it being out. I would have waiting to see the reaction of other people and then decided whether I could deal with it's short-fallings. I still maintain it does everything it's supposed to. Yeah, there are better ways to do it and some things we expected weren't there, but those are enhancements rather than bug fixes (in my opinion). I took my 2nd SPV back to the shop today. The first one died after 2 hours and refused to boot up. Good riddance. And good riddance to you. The sooner we get rid of all the moaners from all the SPV forums/newsgroups and get people who like and are interested in improving the phone the happier I'll be! God I'm fed up hearing how s*** this phone is... :x Barry

Guest DJHope Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 Barry i agree this is starting to get very annoying im sure i could pick up a CARBON COPY of this post below somewere, PLEASE STOP REPEATING YOURSELVES! and as for the nature of the post, surely their must have been something you liked i think a balanced opinion would have been better, and more constructive, im fed up with all the SARCASTIC people here, the whole adding smart to the end of every sentance! Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit...
Guest spacemonkey Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 This phone is rubbish. The connector for the pc joystick doesn't work and I still can't get my new copy of Splinter Cell going. This is my 27th replacement phone from Orange and I can't believe it still won't even run playstation games. And the calendar functions are rubbish. I called 156 and they told me that I actually needed to "walk to [my] meetings" myself even though I had entered them in the calendar. I am glad it's still in the 14 day trial period because I'm taking mine back.
Guest joelj Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 Yeh i agree this is starting to get very annoying im sure i could pick up a CARBON COPY of this post below somewere, PLEASE STOP REPEATING YOURSELVES! and as for the nature of the post, surely their must have been something you liked i think a balanced opinion would have been better, and more constructive, im fed up with all the SARCASTIC people here, the whole adding smart to the end of every sentance!Although I sympathise with both the complaints from folks who've returned their units, and those from folk who have had enough of people complaining over and over, I still see value in reading posts from users or ex-users venting their spleen. Can I suggest to Paul (if you're reading this) that we please have a dedicated "Consumer Issues/Customer Service" forum, where people can be vitriolic as they wish when recounting their experiences of the SPV? On one hand, we seem to have a lot of people in denial here who can't stand the spleen. I can see their point entirely. I personally, have a love/hate relationship with the phone. On the other hand, I think it would be unfair for people so disillusioned by the phone that they have to send it back, to be allowed no forum to publicly complain. I also think that this website is the best and obvious choce of venue for such a forum. Also, it will provide Orange/Microsoft/HTC with a historical record of disgruntlement... which has to be good for us consumers, right? Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit... No, I think you'll find that's "Jeremy Beadle". Closely followed by "Garry Bushell" and then "bad puns". Sarcasm is only the fourth lowest form of wit. Thanks for reading! joel
Guest DJHope Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 Yeh id like to second that, thats a great idea joel, a new forum were people can rant and flame to their hearts content and please move the ranting posts over to their! that was quite a nice post altogether joel some good points were made :D
Guest Bazz Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 I don't mind reading the complaints. I think there are a lot of things which should be fixed/changed with the phone. I'm just fed up reading the same complaints over and over and over and over and over again from people who blatantly couldn't be arsed to read previous posts. With a newsgroup that MAY be acceptable if your server deletes old messages, but this board has all the old posts and even moves new messages to the top, so you don't need to worry about anyone missing your little rant. We all know there are problems with the phone and to make your mind up on whether to buy the phone you should read all reviews, but to read 6 million identical negative rants and 1 positive review is tiring. As I stated most so called "bugs" are infact just missing features, a lot of which most people expect from a phone, but that doesn't mean a phone is buggy. I imagine MS and Orange ARE reading both this and microsoft.public.smartphone (even if they don't want to make their presence known) and ARE taking note. Call this blind faith, but to me it makes sense... Barry
Guest xanadu Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 I have found a bug in the Orange SPV phone. Seems to be a missing a self destruct button, that will wipe out people that keep repeating themselves about how they don't like the SPV. :D :( :( :P
Guest Deako Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 I have no trouble getting my phone to ring contacts with +44 in international dialing code format. For god sake, its new, yes there are bugs. Be patient!!!! Its the most advanced and amazing phone i have ever used. So im sticking with it like many others.
