Guest youngerpants Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Morning all, Just wondering what websites you all have stored as favorites on your SPV's... the toolkit of sites you could not live without. e.g. some of my most visited sites whren on the move are pda.football365.com (we are top of the league!) google hotmail www.ratemyboobies.com (one for the pub ;o)) www.webworldcam.com/indexpda.html (another great show-off site... hmmm, I wonder what Thailand looks like at the moment) oh, and of course.... Modaco loads of responses please, I want a realy useful list of favorites from this one
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 I have: Mobile MoDaCo BBC News text version My TiVo's SPV interface Orange Today That's about it! P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 MoDaCo, BBC News, Orange Train timetable lookup. ;)
Guest youngerpants Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 BBC news text version has been duly added, as have train timetables another handy one is dictionary.com... but its hard to think of HTML resources that are indispensible when on the move (except for the boobies one of course ;) )

Guest matth Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 I've got loads : BBC is the best tho, as well as Sky's PDA site. But - Since i had to do a hard reset i lost a few good ones. Whilst browsing on the orange directory i came across a PDA version of the Internet Movie Database. Which was absoloutly superb. Does anyone have the address? I've done a few searches on Google but only found the whole file for download. cheers
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 BBC seems quite popular - quite a suprise !!! Personally i've got weather report bookmarked (i'ma golfer so you can understand lol) along with Mobile ModaCo - some gr8 site which is gr8 for the pub - cant name it tho lol (too many youngsters a' peepin') and of course my Orange News ;) Have to say I've been really impressed with GPRS and glad we've all got an extra month or so !! SpaceCowboy
Guest youngerpants Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 space cowboy, which site (URL) do you use for weather reports?
Guest chewie Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 mobile MoDaCo of course ;) 4clubbers.net wap message board. orange today - sport, aston villa. orange today - weather. orange today - tv guide. crosword helper. internet movie database erowid.org google. some site's are a right pain to look at on the spv though.
Guest budda Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 http://mobile.msn.com/hm/folder.aspx http://www.google.com/ie http://www.google.com/palm is an alternative, less screen space taken up (no advert for the bar at the bottom)
Guest fraser Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 As others have suggested, a mobile IMBD site would be great. I've searched for this many times and never found anything like it. Matth, you need to find this again!! Also, the webcam link in the first post doesn't seem to work on my phone.
Guest youngerpants Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 fraser, try www.webworldcam.com/indexpda.htm (drop the "l")
Guest matth Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Found IT! check this IMDB in miniture. http://www.magma.ca/~sheppard/IMDb/Web/index.html
Guest youngerpants Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Well done that man! My phone can now be used to stop arguments in the pub! Keep em coming...
Guest fraser Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Cheers youngerpants, but you never mentioned you need to subscribe to the web cam site. Pity, it looked like a nice site. Cheers for the IMDB matth, I found that link myself on Google 2 minutes ago, but it didn't work for me. However, clicking on your post works fine, but only on the PC. When I try it on the SPV, I get "page not found" errors when I try to search for a movie.
Guest youngerpants Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Fraser, that site wasn't subscription last week... how very annoying! I will have to find another!
Guest matth Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Fraser - don't forget that you need to select what you want the IMDB to show you, just put a tick in the box marked ALL and do the search. Unlike the main IMDB, not all the films have links to the info but it is kept update, for example Welcome to Colinwood, Dreamcatcher and X2 are all on there.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 space cowboy, which site (URL) do you use for weather reports? Orange Today - News - Scroll Down To Weather - Bookmark to your chosen town ;) Really quite handy !! SpaceCowboy
Guest watek Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Another one for the pub: www.ratemypoo.com LOL
Guest fraser Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Matth, so it's not the real imdb.com? Is that not the point? The IMDB is probably the biggest movie resource on the planet!
Guest Mr B Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 For you Londoners: Fluid Bar Guide: www.fluidfoundation.com/mobile/ Transport for London: pda.tfl.gov.uk/ Reference: British Telecom Directory: wap.bt.com/wap/dq/dqform.jsp#dqres Yellow Pages: mobile.yell.com/search/mobile/#yellSearch
Guest Mr B Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Oh yeah, and: Up My Street (what's near you based on postcode): wap.upmystreet.com And most of the stuff other people have. Not sure about the BBC site - last time I went, linking to other articles apart from the main pages was difficult, and I could never find what I wanted. Much prefer the Orange portal for all that sort of stuff.
Guest fraser Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Is anyone actually testing these URLs before posting? The BT phonebook doesn't work, it times out when you do a search. Yello pages doesn't work either...it insists on dialing a GPRS connection, even when you set-up your data connection as "pass-thru connector". I've always had problems with Yell in Pocket IE. Or is my phone knackered...? ;)
Guest matth Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Aye, it is the real IMDB. all the info on it is copyrighted by the IMDB 2003. works fine for me. cheers
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 I only use the following: Google MoDaCo Monolithix Hotmail WebInspire I'd like a massive list of 'spv-viable' sites tho .. so as peeps say .. keep em coming =)
